“Separate, Yet Together!”… Busan Metropolitan City’s Internal Audit Bodies Join Forces to Deliver Citizen-Focused Audit Activities

Busan Metropolitan City Audit Committee (Chairperson Yoon Hee-yeon, hereinafter referred to as the Committee) announced that it held the “2026 Meeting of Officials from Internal Audit Bodies” at 2:00 PM yesterday (31st) in the main auditorium of City Hall to establish strategic partnerships among internal audit bodies.

Approximately 40 participants attended the meeting, including officials from the Committee as well as heads of internal audit bodies from districts, counties, and public institutions.

Following last year’s meeting, this year’s session was organized to further strengthen communication among the city, districts, counties, and public institutions, and to explore cooperative measures for realizing integrity-driven administration that citizens can directly experience in their daily lives.

The meeting featured in-depth discussions on ▲the 2026 internal audit operation guidelines ▲sharing results of best practices in collaborative audits among internal audit bodies (inspection of duty management status in public institutions) ▲guidelines for promoting proactive administration ▲direction of inspection operations to establish public service discipline.

In particular, the Committee shared exemplary audit cases that respected the independence of each institution while promoting close cooperation, presenting future directions for audit operations.

The highlighted best practice in collaborative auditing was the “Inspection of Duty Management Status in Public Institutions (Drunk Driving and Concurrent Employment Fields),” conducted through continuous communication and exchange with internal audit bodies of local public institutions. Through building consensus on the need for institutional improvements, this initiative laid the groundwork for establishing autonomous internal control systems tailored to the characteristics of each institution.

In addition, the Committee introduced a new audit operation direction centered on “support for proactive administration,” aimed at redefining the role of internal audit bodies within the public sector and enabling public officials to focus on their duties with confidence, free from excessive audit burdens.

To this end, it announced plans to establish and operate a “Pre-consulting Audit and Proactive Administration Immunity Consultation Fast Track,” designed to improve audit accessibility and support prompt decision-making, while emphasizing the creation of an active working environment that can lead to tangible changes felt by citizens.

Furthermore, the Committee explained plans to conduct special inspections to establish public service discipline in preparation for the 9th Nationwide Simultaneous Local Elections, urging each institution to formulate its own plans tailored to its circumstances and to ensure thorough inspection and management.
