Mayor Park Heong-joon: “Voices of Businesses into Policy”… Busan Metropolitan City Hosts Innovation Growth Roundtable for Sasang Industrial Area

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold the 5th Corporate Innovation Growth Relay Roundtable today (31st) at 14:30 in the main lecture hall of the Busan Techno Park Eomgung Complex in Sasang-gu, together with companies located in the Sasang industrial complex.

The roundtable will be attended by Mayor Park Heong-joon, key city officials, and approximately 20 representatives of companies in the Sasang industrial area, including Hwang Si-dong, Chairman of the Sasang Industrial Development Council. Participants will engage in in-depth discussions on corporate challenges and innovation strategies in the region.

Busan Metropolitan City is further strengthening a customized policy support system based on on-site demand in industrial complexes by region and is actively promoting field-oriented administrative innovation to enhance the competitiveness of industrial complexes, which form the foundation of the Busan economy. The city is concentrating its administrative capacity on carefully collecting diverse on-site opinions and translating them into tangible policy outcomes.

The city has reviewed suggestions received from the 1st through 4th roundtables and has continuously reflected on-site opinions in its policies. These include ▲establishing a cybersecurity support plan for local companies ▲including flexible sports facilities in the Jeonggwan Industrial Complex Youth Culture Center ▲raising the interest subsidy rate for SME policy funds ▲supporting export-oriented companies.

At today’s 5th roundtable, discussions will focus on ▲expediting the Sasang Smart City development project ▲resolving the transition to a five-day workweek ▲addressing technological and management challenges in the manufacturing sector ▲supporting recruitment difficulties, as well as measures to strengthen the growth foundation and improve the working environment in the Sasang industrial area.

In addition, Busan Metropolitan City is concentrating administrative efforts on minimizing damage to businesses in response to growing global uncertainty stemming from the situation in the Middle East.

The city held an emergency inspection meeting on the Middle East situation on March 4 to closely examine corporate damage and expanded support measures, including the provision of a 350 billion KRW “Global Risk Response Special Fund” and an additional 22 billion KRW in support for export companies, such as overseas logistics costs and export insurance premiums.

Through the “Region-Specialized Job Creation Project,” the city is also supporting employment stability and strengthening growth momentum for small and medium-sized manufacturers by providing hiring incentives, recruitment-linked environmental improvements, and innovation growth support.

Furthermore, to reinforce a virtuous cycle in the local economy, the city plans to promote policies aimed at achieving a 70 percent local product purchase rate by expanding the use of locally produced goods in the public sector and encouraging participation from the private sector.

Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, “The Sasang industrial area, a manufacturing hub, is a key base and birthplace that led Busan’s industrialization and is now at the center of transformation as it prepares to evolve into the Sasang Dream Smart City,” adding, “We will go beyond the outdated image of an industrial area and make every effort to transform it into a smart hub where advanced industries and culture are harmoniously integrated.”
