Busan Metropolitan City Explores Cultural and Development Strategies Linked to West Busan Festivals: Hosts “West Busan Festival ‘Ieum’ Talk Concert”

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold the “West Busan Festival ‘Ieum’ Talk Concert” today (30th) at 4:30 PM in the exhibition hall of Honti Art Center in Saha-gu.

This event is co-hosted by the city and the Busan Tourism Organization.

The talk concert has been organized to review the current status of festivals and tourism content in West Busan and to explore strategies for cultural and tourism development in the region in connection with these festivals, together with local residents.

Under the slogan “From Separate to Together, Connecting the Joy of West Busan,” discussions will focus on strategies to expand West Busan festivals beyond one-off events into broader areas such as culture, performances, exhibitions, nighttime tourism, ecological tourism, and local commercial districts.

The event will be attended by approximately 100 participants, including Vice Mayor for Future Innovation Seong Heui-yeob, experts, professors, representatives from related organizations, civic groups, merchants, and citizens. The program will consist of keynote presentations, a talk concert, and an on-site communication session (dialogue with citizens).

In the keynote session, Lee Jeong-sil, President of the Busan Tourism Organization; Park Yong-heon, Secretary General of the Busan Festival Organizing Committee; and Professor Kwon Jang-uk of Dongseo University will each present on the current status, challenges, and development strategies for festivals and tourism in West Busan.

In the talk concert that follows, Vice Mayor for Future Innovation Seong Heui-yeob will engage in open discussions with four panelists with expertise in culture and tourism in West Busan, focusing on ways to revitalize culture and tourism through festival linkages. A dialogue session with citizens will also be held to hear candid perspectives from local residents.

The panel will include one representative each from festival planning, cultural performance, local merchants in West Busan, and university students.

The selected panelists are Park Myeong-jae, Program Director of the Busan Food Film Festa, as the festival planner; Lee Ji-suk, Director of the Buk-gu Creative Culture Vitality Center, as the cultural performance representative; Park Jeong-je, President of the Sasang-gu Street Park Merchants Association; and Ahn Seo-jeong, a student in the Department of Media and Communication at Dong-A University.

Vice Mayor for Future Innovation Seong Heui-yeob stated, “To make West Busan a place that attracts people and encourages visits, it is essential to revitalize culture and tourism in connection with festivals. Based on the opinions shared today, we will strive to create a virtuous cycle in which visitors to West Busan festivals can enjoy performances and exhibitions while also experiencing local food and culture in nearby commercial districts, thereby establishing West Busan as a new hub for culture and tourism in Busan.”
