Busan Metropolitan City to Foster Future Mobility Talent through the First Performance Sharing Session of the “Local Talent Development Support Project”

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold a performance-sharing session for the first year of the “Local Talent Development Support Project,” which aims to intensively support the development of local talent before and after university admission in connection with the Busan RISE plan.

The event will take place today (30th) at 4:30 p.m. at the Avani Central Busan Hotel, with approximately 100 participants including the city government, the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education, high schools, parents, and university representatives. The program will include presentations of first-year outcomes, an introduction to the second-year plan, and presentations of best practices by participating high school and university students.

The Local Talent Development Support Project is a five-year future-oriented talent development initiative running from 2025 to 2029. It aims to build a “lifelong education ecosystem” that begins with career planning and exploration at the high school level and continues through enrollment in local universities and long-term settlement in the region.

To this end, the project is promoting the following initiatives: operation of advanced education programs linking high schools and universities; gradual expansion and enhancement of the regional talent admission track; and implementation of future-oriented competency-building programs for prospective university students prior to admission.

In June of last year, the city formed a consortium with the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education, the Busan RISE Innovation Institute, and four local universities—Busan National University, Kyungsung University, Dong-Eui University, and Silla University—and was selected for the Ministry of Education’s Local Talent Development Support Project. Through this initiative, local high schools and universities are linked to provide career exploration and major experience programs in future mobility fields such as automobiles, aviation, and shipbuilding, as well as pre-admission competency enhancement programs.

While the Busan-style RISE project focuses on cultivating talent centered on local universities and connecting them to employment and entrepreneurship, the Local Talent Development Support Project is a future-oriented education model that goes one step further by starting at the high school stage. It aims to realize a “virtuous cycle of local talent,” where students raised in the region choose local universities, work in local industries, and settle in the region.

In its second year, the project will focus on enabling high school students to experience advanced courses at leading local universities and enhancing their adaptability to university life and responsiveness to future industries through pre-admission education.

Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, “By concentrating our capabilities on the Busan-style RISE project, Busan National University, Kyungsung University, Dong-Eui University, and Silla University will collaborate to jointly develop and operate curricula for high school students, implement pre-college programs, and gradually expand the regional talent admission track, thereby establishing a systematic education system that connects high schools and universities.”
