Busan Metropolitan City to Hold “Traditional Market Sales Promotion Support Event” at Dongnae Market and Chungmu-dong Dawn Market to Boost Consumption

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold the “Traditional Market Sales Promotion Support Event” for three days from tomorrow (the 26th) to March 28 at Dongnae Market and Chungmu-dong Dawn Market to stimulate consumption.

This event is a customized consumption promotion initiative designed to revitalize traditional markets struggling due to economic slowdown and reduced consumer spending. The participating markets were selected through a public contest in February.

During the event period, customer-participation programs will be operated, and discount coupons worth KRW 10,000 (two KRW 5,000 coupons) will be distributed daily on a first-come, first-served basis to encourage longer stays and consumption by family visitors and to support tangible recovery in sales.

Dongnae Market (Dongnae-gu) will host the “Yeokjeon (History and Tradition) Festival,” offering a variety of traditional culture experience programs.

Actors dressed in Joseon Dynasty attire will perform situational plays and photo sessions throughout the market as part of the “Joseon-era marketplace performance,” providing entertainment for visitors.

Traditional folk game experience programs such as tuho, large-scale yutnori, and jegichagi will also be operated, allowing families and children to participate together.

In addition, a “Jumakchon Food Zone” inspired by traditional Korean taverns of the Joseon period will be set up within the market, where visitors can enjoy representative local foods such as Dongnae pajeon.

At Chungmu-dong Dawn Market (Seo-gu), consumption promotion events such as free gukbap service, an inventory market, and nighttime programs will be held.

During the event period, the “Hearty Morning Event” will provide sirak gukbap to the first 200 merchants and wholesale customers daily from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., enhancing convenience for market users.

An “KRW 10,000 Inventory Market” centered on fresh agricultural and seafood products will be operated, enabling visitors to purchase a variety of goods at reasonable prices.

During nighttime hours, a “Night Plaza Event with Beer” will be held to create an environment where visitors can stay and enjoy consumption activities.

A market merchant commented, “These days, we keenly feel that traditional markets must change to retain customers,” adding, “We hope that this event will encourage more family visitors to come frequently and bring vitality back to the market.”

Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, “This event will provide a valuable opportunity to inject new vitality into traditional markets and offer citizens special memories,” adding, “We will continue to promote diverse consumption promotion programs so that people can truly experience the revitalization of traditional market districts.”
