Busan Metropolitan City Successfully Concludes Recruitment of Volunteers for National Junior (Youth Para) Sports Festivals

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it has successfully concluded the recruitment of volunteers to support the successful operation of The 55th National Junior Sports Festival and The 20th National Youth Para Games, which will be held in Busan this coming May.

The recruitment took place over one month from February 23 to March 23, attracting a total of 2,223 applicants—far exceeding the initial target of 1,200 and achieving approximately 185.3 percent of the goal.

The city diversified its promotional efforts through various online and offline channels, including ambassador social media, public transportation, and visits to local universities, thereby maximizing citizen participation. These efforts led to strong voluntary participation from citizens and contributed to the successful completion of the recruitment.

Selected volunteers will be assigned to venues across Busan during the events and will serve as the “face of Busan,” performing a wide range of roles. Their key duties will include supporting the general operations center, assisting with venue operations, supporting the opening ceremony, and providing medical and quarantine assistance.

The final selection results will be announced on March 31. Selected volunteers will undergo basic training and leadership training next month, followed by a launch ceremony, and will then take part in the National Youth Para Games and the National Junior Sports Festival.

The volunteer training scheduled for next month will be conducted both online and offline. In addition, separate leadership training will be provided for approximately 80 lead volunteers.

At the launch ceremony to be held on April 30 in the main auditorium on the first floor of Busan City Hall, volunteers will strengthen their commitment through a performance wishing for the success of the events and a reading of a pledge.

Lee Jung-min, Head of the Busan National Sports Festival Planning Unit, stated, “The enthusiastic support shown by our citizens for the volunteer recruitment once again demonstrates Busan’s high level of civic awareness,” adding, “We will provide professional and systematic support together with our volunteers so that young athletes can fully demonstrate their abilities in a safe and fair environment.”
