Busan Shares Citizen-Experienced Changes and Future Direction: “Talking About Busan as a Global Hub City” Municipal Government Briefing Held

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) held the “Talking About Busan as a Global Hub City” municipal government briefing today (24th) at 3:20 p.m. at Sajik Indoor Gymnasium, with approximately 5,000 citizens in attendance. The event served as an opportunity to communicate directly with citizens while sharing the direction of city administration and the progress of key policies.

This briefing moved beyond the traditional one-way reporting format and was conducted as a participatory communication event combining remarks from citizen representatives, a panel talk with Busan natives, and an on-site Q&A session.

On stage, a diverse group of citizens—including young professionals, emerging artists, and parents raising children—shared their experiences, focusing on changes they have felt in everyday life in areas such as employment, culture, and childcare environments.

A youth representative noted that policies for nurturing local talent and attracting businesses are leading to expanded employment opportunities based on personal experience, while a young artist stated that increased support for arts and culture is helping establish a foundation for creative activities.

In addition, a representative of the “100 Fathers Group” explained changes resulting from childcare policies and expanded living infrastructure through specific examples, emphasizing improvements in the childcare environment.

Through a vision briefing, Mayor Park outlined the current status of major city initiatives—including investment attraction, employment, and tourism—and shared recent changes in urban conditions and policy implementation, reporting to citizens that Busan is progressing toward becoming a global hub city.

He also introduced policy initiatives closely related to daily life—such as the 15-minute city, promotion of recreational sports, and air quality improvement—and stated that the city administration will continue to focus on changes that citizens can experience in their everyday lives.

In the subsequent “Dialogue with Citizens” session, Busan-born actor Byun Woo-min and comedian Hong Rok-gi participated, sharing various perspectives.

The two panelists led a natural conversation by raising questions from the citizens’ point of view on topics such as the Special Act on Busan as a Global Hub City, the World Design Capital initiative, and childbirth and parenting.

In particular, a Q&A session was conducted based on questions and suggestions that citizens had submitted in advance through a message board installed at the venue, allowing a wide range of opinions closely related to citizens’ daily lives to be shared on-site.

Additionally, on the right side of the stage, a storage box containing signatures for the “Special Act on Busan as a Global Hub City,” signed by 1.6 million Busan citizens in 2024, was displayed and drew attention. The signatures were collected with participation from citizens across various sectors, including politics, business, and academia.

Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, “This municipal government briefing was a meaningful opportunity to directly hear the voices of citizens and to review on-the-ground changes and challenges together,” adding, “As I believe all policies are ultimately completed in citizens’ daily lives, we will pursue policies that allow citizens to tangibly experience improvements in their quality of life, and through this, concentrate our administrative capacity on helping Busan leap forward as a global hub city.”
