Busan Metropolitan City Hosts the 4th Urban Design Innovation Forum: Advancing City Administration through Creative Design Perspectives

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it successfully held the “4th Urban Design Innovation Forum” yesterday (March 23) at the Very Very Good Bongsan Center in Yeongdo.

This forum was organized as the first event of the “2028 World Design Capital (WDC) Busan Design Week,” which runs from March 23 to 29, with the aim of spreading creative design perspectives and brand thinking across all areas of city administration.
Approximately 60 participants attended the event, including officials from the city and district offices, employees of local public institutions, and members of the Bongsan Village Management Social Cooperative.

The forum was held under the theme “Creating Inclusive Living Spaces through the Utilization of Vacant Houses” and proceeded in the order of expert presentations, Q&A, and networking.
Choi Jae-won, head of FLO Architects Office, who delivered the keynote presentation, is the architect of the Very Very Good Bongsan Center—an exemplary urban regeneration project that drew significant attention from the World Design Capital evaluation team last year. He also introduced the value of spaces that capture time and landscape, including projects such as the Gusan-dong Library Village in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul.

In particular, based on achievements in the field of public architecture—including winning the Grand Prize at the “2023 Busan Architecture Awards” and a Special Prize at the “2025 Korea Public Architecture Awards”—he emphasized the public role of architecture.

Through this forum, the city plans to further disseminate creative design perspectives and brand thinking throughout its administration and strengthen its capacity to implement policies based on public design.

Moon Jeong-ju, Head of the Future Design Headquarters of Busan Metropolitan City, stated, “We expect this forum to serve as an opportunity to expand the value of a people-centered design city throughout administration and to enhance public design policy capabilities,” adding, “Design is ultimately an investment for people, and through design, we will create a safe, warm, and beautiful city of Busan.”
