Mayor Park Heong-joon: Strengthening Strategic Cooperation to Advance Busan as a Future Vehicle Production Hub with Renault Korea Investment Agreement

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that today (23rd) at 3:00 PM, it will strengthen strategic cooperation with Renault Korea, leveraging the investment agreement and new vehicle launch as an opportunity to build a future vehicle industry ecosystem and advance as a global mobility hub.

The event will be attended by key figures including Mayor Park Heong-joon, Renault Korea CEO Nicolas Paris, Assistant Mayor of Digital Economy Office Kim Bong-cheol, and Renault Korea Vice President Sang Hee-jung, who will engage in in-depth discussions focusing on directions for cooperation and implementation tasks between the two organizations.

This event goes beyond a simple meeting and will be carried out as a comprehensive mutual cooperation program, including an investment agreement (MOU) for electric powertrain production facilities and a ceremony for the purchase of Renault Korea’s new vehicle ‘FILANTE’ as an official government vehicle of Busan Metropolitan City.

Renault Korea previously submitted a new investment plan at the ‘2025 APEC CEO Summit Korea,’ which includes expansion of electric powertrain facilities at its Busan plant, and this event marks the signing of the corresponding investment agreement.

With this additional facility investment, the Busan plant will be able to establish a flexible production system capable of manufacturing internal combustion engine, hybrid, and electric vehicles.

‘FILANTE’ is Renault Korea’s flagship new vehicle and a core model of the Renault Group’s mid- to long-term strategy, “International Game Plan 2027.”

Following its global unveiling in January this year, the vehicle was officially launched in March and has already recorded over 7,000 pre-orders prior to launch, demonstrating strong market interest.

It is also expected to contribute to strengthening Renault Korea’s global competitiveness through future expansion into overseas markets.

Busan Metropolitan City plans to continue advancing the future vehicle industry ecosystem based on its cooperation with Renault Korea.

The City is promoting related projects in phases, including export-driven future vehicle innovation growth technology support, collaborative R&D for key components, the establishment of an XR-based digital twin system, and the creation of a shared center for giant casting.

Through these efforts, the City aims to strengthen collaborative linkages among completed vehicle manufacturers, parts companies, and research institutions, and systematically expand a region-centered future vehicle industry cluster.

Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, “Renault Korea is a key anchor company playing a pivotal role in Busan’s manufacturing sector, and this investment agreement and new vehicle launch mark an important turning point in the transformation of Busan’s future vehicle industry,” adding, “We will continue to solidify our status as a global future vehicle production hub through advanced strategic cooperation with Renault Korea, and make every effort to create quality jobs and enhance industrial competitiveness.”
