Mayor Park Heong-joon: “Warm Sharing Brightens the Future of Children”… ChildFund Korea Donates KRW 1.6 Billion to Busan Metropolitan City

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold a donation ceremony this afternoon (23rd) at 16:40 in the International Protocol Room on the 7th floor of City Hall, together with ChildFund Korea, to support children under protection and youth preparing for independence.

This ceremony has been organized to support the healthy growth of children living in child care facilities and group homes, as well as to help youth preparing for independence take their first steps into society after leaving care and achieve stable self-reliance.

The event will be attended by Mayor Park Heong-joon, Jo Yu-jin, Head of ChildFund Korea Busan Regional Headquarters, Park Jeong-gyu, President of the Busan Child Welfare Association, and Seo Geum-ju, President of the Busan Association of Child and Youth Group Homes.

At the ceremony, ChildFund Korea will deliver a total donation of KRW 1.613 billion to Busan Metropolitan City. The funds will be used for various child welfare projects supporting children under protection and youth preparing for independence in the Busan area.

[Sponsorship Program] Approximately KRW 790 million will be provided to the Busan Child Welfare Association and group homes, offering regular monthly financial support to children residing in child care facilities and group homes.

[Improvement of Child Care Facility Environments] Approximately KRW 170 million will be allocated to improve aging facilities and enhance their functions, supporting facility upgrades and the provision of supplies so that children can live in a safer and more comfortable environment.

[Self-Reliance Capacity Building Program] Approximately KRW 450 million will be provided to support children in preparing for independence, with plans to operate various programs such as certification acquisition, mentoring, career education, and employment linkage.

[Caregiving Support Programs] Approximately KRW 200 million will be used for programs that promote emotional stability and healthy growth of children under protection, including cultural experience activities, holiday support, and wish-fulfillment programs.

Since 1981, ChildFund Korea has carried out a wide range of child welfare projects in the Busan area, including sponsorship programs as well as support in education, healthcare, and housing, working to ensure the healthy growth and future of children from vulnerable groups.

Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, “The support from ChildFund Korea is a deeply meaningful act of sharing that delivers hope to children in our community,” adding, “Based on this spirit of warm sharing and solidarity, Busan Metropolitan City will continue to advance more meticulous and systematic child welfare policies so that children under protection and youth preparing for independence can grow and achieve self-reliance in a stable manner.”
