Apply for “Busan Multi-Child Education Support Points” Starting March for Families with Two or More Children

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon), in cooperation with the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seok-jun), announced that it will implement the “Busan Multi-Child Education Support Points” program to support families with school-age children.

This program, jointly funded by Busan Metropolitan City and the Office of Education at a 7:3 ratio to alleviate the financial burden of education expenses for multi-child households, was launched in 2024 and is now in its third year.

Last year, approximately 122,000 multi-child households received a total of KRW 41.4 billion in support. Through integration with public MyData, the application and screening process was simplified, resulting in a significant improvement in satisfaction with procedures—from 76.1% in 2024 to 91.6%—indicating increased convenience and stronger public perception of the policy.

The “Busan Multi-Child Education Support Points” are available to all multi-child households in Busan with at least one child born between 2008 and 2019 (elementary, middle, or high school age), regardless of income or asset criteria.

Support amounts are KRW 300,000 for families with two children and KRW 500,000 for families with three or more children.

However, to ensure eligibility for Busan residents, applicants must have resided in Busan for at least three months based on their resident registration.

The education support points are provided as policy support funds through Dongbaekjeon, Busan’s local currency, and can be used at Dongbaekjeon-affiliated merchants for education-related expenses.

They can be used for purchasing learning materials and books, accessing study spaces such as reading rooms and study cafés, arts and physical education programs, and stationery, copying, and printing costs.

For the convenience of multi-child households, online payments are also available at four major online bookstores—Kyobo Book Centre, Aladin, Youngpoong Bookstore, and Yes24.

Additionally, starting this year, optical shops have been added as eligible merchants to support children’s vision care and learning environments, expanding usage options. However, to strengthen public education, the points cannot be used at private academies for core subjects such as Korean, English, and mathematics.

Applications can be submitted via the Dongbaekjeon mobile app starting at 9:00 a.m. today (March 23) until 6:00 p.m. on December 11.

If the applicant and child are registered in the same household, points are issued immediately. If they are registered separately, points will be provided sequentially after verification through documents such as a family relations certificate.

If mobile application is difficult due to reasons such as not having a phone under the applicant’s name or using a 2G mobile network, applications can be made through the dedicated Busan Multi-Child Education Support Points call center (1660-2206).

Kim Gui-ok, Director General of the Youth and Industry-Academia Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, stated, “This year, we have advanced the support schedule to March so that education support points can be used earlier, and expanded eligible merchants to include optical shops, allowing multi-child households to better experience the benefits of education expense support,” adding, “We will continue to develop field-oriented support measures to make Busan a better city to raise children.”
