Mayor Park Heong-joon: A Step Toward Building a Warm Welfare Community as KB Kookmin Bank Donates to Support Disability Welfare Programs in Busan

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold a donation ceremony for the 2026 disability welfare programs sponsored by KB Kookmin Bank (President Lee Hwan-ju) today (the 19th) at 5:10 p.m. in the Reception Room at City Hall.

The ceremony is expected to be attended by Mayor Park Heong-joon, Yoon Yong-hwan, Executive Vice President of the Yeongnam Business Promotion Group at KB Kookmin Bank, Lee Su-tae, Chairman of the Busan Community Chest of Korea, and Kim Young-dong, President of the Busan Association of the Deaf, among others.

On this day, KB Kookmin Bank will deliver its 2026 donation aimed at improving the quality of life and expanding social participation for persons with disabilities in the Busan region. The donated funds will be used for six disability welfare programs that reflect practical local needs.

The six programs for 2026 in Busan are as follows: the Busan International Disability Human Rights Film Festival; the Busan Career and Employment Expo for Persons with Disabilities; rental and customized modification of assistive devices; provision of customized communication support services and distribution of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) kits; early detection and early intervention for infants and toddlers with developmental delays, “Early In”; and sign language and Korean language education programs.

Since contributing 100 million KRW to support the successful hosting of the 2023 World Disability Conference in Busan, KB Kookmin Bank has continued to support disability welfare initiatives in the region. Over the past two years, it has provided a total of 350 million KRW for nine projects, including the replacement of charging stations for electric mobility devices for persons with disabilities.

This donation is also significant as an example of a financial institution fulfilling its social responsibility and as a model for building a regional welfare system through public-private cooperation. Busan Metropolitan City plans to continue strengthening cooperation with private companies to reduce welfare blind spots for persons with disabilities and establish a more systematic support framework.

Yoon Yong-hwan, Executive Vice President of the Yeongnam Business Promotion Group at KB Kookmin Bank, stated, “We are pleased to once again support essential welfare programs for persons with disabilities in the Busan region this year.”

Mayor Park Heong-joon expressed his appreciation, stating, “We are grateful for the warm interest shown by KB Kookmin Bank’s executives and employees in improving the lives of persons with disabilities in Busan,” adding, “We will ensure the funds are used for necessary programs to build a warm welfare community where persons with and without disabilities can live happily together, creating a ‘Well-being Busan.’”
