Preempting Risks with AI: Busan Metropolitan City to Host Technical Lecture on Construction Safety (AI Smart Safety)

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold a “Technical Lecture on Construction Safety (AI Smart Safety)” today (18th) at 1:00 PM in the International Conference Hall on the 12th floor of City Hall, aimed at innovating safety at construction sites and establishing a systematic management framework.

This lecture has been organized in line with the promotion of large-scale infrastructure projects in Busan, such as the construction of Gadeokdo New Airport, to move beyond conventional safety management practices and establish “AI Smart Safety” utilizing artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and information and communication technology (ICT) at construction sites.

At the event, officials from the Korea Smart Safety & Health Association, construction engineers, and related public officials will attend to share field application cases of smart safety technologies and the importance of smart safety equipment.

The main program consists of ▲development directions for applying AI smart safety technologies at construction sites ▲case studies of smart safety utilization using AI technologies ▲demonstrations of AI-based closed-circuit television (CCTV) reporting and risk assessment.

In particular, through demonstrations of AI CCTV video analysis and risk assessment—technologies with high practical applicability in the field—the event will vividly present how advanced technologies can eliminate safety blind spots at construction sites.

Starting with this lecture, the city plans to expand practical policy support to ensure that smart safety technologies take root across construction sites, fundamentally improving the safety framework of Busan’s construction industry and enhancing public trust.

Baek Myeong-gi, Director General of the Urban Planning Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, stated, “For Busan to leap forward as a global hub city, the foremost priority is safety at construction sites,” adding, “The introduction of AI smart safety technology, which predicts and manages risks in advance, is not an option but a necessity.”
