Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will appoint Choi Yeol, Emeritus Professor of the College of Engineering at Pusan National University, as the Chief Urban Planner of Busan Metropolitan City today (March 17) at 14:30 in the reception room on the 7th floor of City Hall.

This appointment of the Chief Urban Planner was carried out to strengthen the strategic advisory framework for creating a future city shaped by innovation in Busan’s urban spaces.

Chief Urban Planner Choi Yeol will take on the role of presenting and coordinating comprehensive planning directions centered on policies and strategies for the overall urban spatial framework.

Chief Urban Planner Choi Yeol earned a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Pusan National University, a master’s degree in Theoretical Public Administration from Pusan National University, and a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Southern California. He currently serves as Emeritus Professor in the College of Engineering at Pusan National University.

From 2021 to 2023, he served as Chair of the Busan Metropolitan City Urban Planning Committee, and since 2023 he has been serving as a member of the Central Urban Planning Committee under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, where he has built an extensive network in the field of urban planning.

Busan Metropolitan City expects that, based on Chief Urban Planner Choi Yeol’s diverse experience in urban planning, the city will establish itself as a future city model created through innovation in urban spaces.

Chief Urban Planner Choi Yeol stated upon his appointment, “Drawing on my diverse experiences so far, I will do my utmost to help create a successful future city model through urban planning.”
