Busan Metropolitan City to Support Improvements to Emotional Laborers’ Working Conditions… Funding for Installation and Renovation of Rest Facilities

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will implement the “2026 Emotional Laborers’ Working Environment Improvement Support Project” to protect the health rights of emotional laborers and reduce the burden on small business owners.

This project has been carried out annually since the city established the “Busan Metropolitan City Master Plan for the Protection of Emotional Laborers’ Rights and Interests” in August 2022, aiming to establish a protection system for emotional laborers and create a labor environment where workers and businesses can coexist and prosper.

Emotional laborers refer to workers who directly interact with customers, patients, passengers, and others—or deal with them through information and communication networks—while selling products or providing services.

These include occupations such as telephone counselors, telemarketers, bus and taxi drivers, apartment security guards and cleaners, workers in retail and food service sectors, care workers, and kindergarten and childcare teachers.

This year, the city will support the cost of improving working environments at workplaces in Busan where emotional laborers are employed.

Up to KRW 5 million per workplace will be provided for the installation or renovation of worker welfare facilities, including rest areas, shower facilities, pantries, and nursing rooms, as well as repair work such as wallpaper replacement, flooring, and leak repairs.

Up to KRW 4 million will also be supported for the purchase of equipment and protective items within these facilities.

Approximately 10 workplaces will be selected for support, and each participating workplace must cover at least 10 percent of the total supported amount.

Workplaces wishing to participate in the project may submit applications online through the Local Subsidy Management System “Botaem e” (http://www.losims.go.kr) from today (March 11) until March 25.
