Connecting Generations and the Future: Busan Metropolitan City to Host the “2026 Busan Population Vitality Policy Idea Contest”

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold the “2026 Busan Population Vitality Policy Idea Contest” to respond to demographic structure changes such as low birth rates, youth outmigration, and population aging, and to incorporate citizens’ creative policy proposals into municipal administration.

This contest is a citizen participation initiative designed to discover population policy ideas that reflect regional characteristics together with the public. It aims to build consensus on policy direction while identifying practical and effective ideas.

Among the ideas submitted that reflect the voices of citizens and the field, outstanding proposals will undergo review for policy feasibility and may later be incorporated into future population policies.

The contest will accept proposals in three categories: Inclusive support for growth across the life cycle, Creation of an attractive residential and living environment, and Expansion of a foundation for ultra-wide regional innovative growth.

The evaluation process will consist of a first-round document review and a second-round presentation review, through which a total of eight award-winning proposals will be selected. The final results are scheduled to be announced in June through the Busan Metropolitan City website.

Awards will consist of one Grand Prize (KRW 2 million), two Excellence Awards (KRW 1 million each), and five Encouragement Awards (KRW 200,000 each). Winning entries will be selected based on a comprehensive evaluation of policy applicability, feasibility, and creativity, and will be awarded in July during the commemorative event for the 15th Population Day.

Applications for the contest will be accepted from March 9 to April 17, and anyone across the country who is interested in Busan’s population policy may participate either as an individual or as an organization (group).

Those wishing to participate should download and complete the application form and idea proposal form posted in the Notices and Announcements section of the Busan Metropolitan City website (https://www.busan.go.kr/nbgosi) and submit them via email to gustp@korea.kr within the application period.

Busan Metropolitan City expects that this contest will serve as an opportunity to translate citizens’ ideas for solving population issues that they genuinely experience into actual policy. Through active public participation, the city also plans to further strengthen the policy foundation for Busan as a city with vibrant population vitality.
