Healing Busan: Therapeutic Agriculture in the City… The 22nd Busan Urban Agriculture Expo to Be Held

Busan Metropolitan City Agricultural Technology Center (hereinafter referred to as the Center) announced that the 22nd Busan Urban Agriculture Expo will be held from April 9 to 12 at the rapeseed flower landscape complex in Daejeo Ecological Park, Gangseo District.

First launched in 2005 as the nation’s first event of its kind and now marking its 22nd anniversary this year, the Busan Urban Agriculture Expo has become a representative urban agriculture event that has promoted the public value of agriculture to citizens and expanded urban agricultural culture within the city. It has contributed to the balanced development of urban and rural areas and the realization of a carbon-neutral green smart city.

This year’s expo will present various agricultural exhibitions and experiential programs under the theme “Healing Busan: Therapeutic Agriculture in the City.”

A large number of agriculture-related groups will participate in the expo, including farmers, urban farmers, agricultural cooperatives, agriculture-related schools, relevant institutions, and outstanding companies.

In particular, the expo will focus on programs that allow visitors to share the value of urban agriculture and experience the true healing power of nature within a relaxing rapeseed flower healing space where people can comfortably stay and enjoy the scenery.

In addition, visitors will be able to enjoy diverse attractions harmonized with the rapeseed landscape complex, along with a variety of experiential activities for both farmers and citizens. Programs will also include the Spring Symposium of the Korea Urban Agriculture Research Society and various competitions.

Programs include a healing garden (emotion garden) and barrier-free garden experiences, stress and depression index measurement, healing yoga meditation, rapeseed landscape healing programs, exhibitions of functional gardens, care farms, and school gardens, one-on-one urban agriculture consultations, and interactive play programs.

In particular, visitors will find exhibitions and sales featuring Busan’s master tomato producers, Busan rice “Hwanggeum Yechan,” chrysanthemums “Baekgang,” and Daejeo salty tomatoes. Agricultural culture experiences will also be offered, including the Gijang Farmers Market and traditional hand rice-planting experiences.

In addition, visitors can experience future agricultural technologies and trends through the Rural Development Administration promotional pavilion, smart farm control systems, and vertical farm exhibitions. Demonstrations of agricultural drone operations and tractor safety simulation experiences will also be provided. Citizen participation events will include the Korea Urban Agriculture Research Society Spring Symposium, an urban agriculture drawing contest for elementary school students, a horticulture competition for special education classes, and a fresh flower wreath design competition.
