Mayor Park Heong-joon: Busan Launches AI Medical Support Platform to Eliminate Language Barriers in Healthcare

Busan Metropolitan City announced that today (the 4th) at 2:30 p.m. it will sign a “Business Agreement for Improving Convenience in the Use of Medical Institutions by Foreign Nationals Based on AI” with the Busan Metropolitan City Hospital Association, Busan Ilbo, and World Dagachi Co., Ltd. in the International Protocol Room at Busan City Hall.

This agreement has been prepared to create an environment where foreign residents and visitors to Busan can conveniently access local medical services without language barriers and to strengthen the global competitiveness of regional hospitals.

At the signing ceremony, Mayor Park Heong-joon, Park Jong-ho, President of the Busan Metropolitan City Hospital Association, Son Young-shin, CEO of Busan Ilbo, and Kwon Hae-seok, CEO of World Dagachi Co., Ltd., will attend and sign the agreement. The agreement period will be one year from the date of signing.

The main contents of the agreement are as follows:
Busan Metropolitan City will provide administrative and institutional support to build a foreigner-friendly medical environment.
The Busan Metropolitan City Hospital Association will support the participation of member hospitals in the platform and facilitate system linkage.
Busan Ilbo will promote foreign medical services provided by local medical institutions and encourage participation in the platform.
World Dagachi Co., Ltd. will provide an AI-based multilingual medical reservation system and connect it with medical institutions.

Busan Metropolitan City will provide the necessary administrative and institutional support to ensure the establishment of a foreigner-friendly medical environment.

The Busan Metropolitan City Hospital Association will support major member hospitals in the region to actively participate in the DAGACHI platform and link their systems. In particular, it will cooperate in utilizing reservation systems for attracting foreign patients and in developing joint models to improve treatment processes.

Busan Ilbo, as a leading regional media outlet, will widely promote the foreign medical services provided by medical institutions in Busan and their participation in the platform. Through related feature articles and content, it plans to expand awareness of the platform and contribute to enhancing the image of Busan as a global city.

World Dagachi Co., Ltd. will provide its AI-based multilingual medical reservation system and serve as a technological bridge connecting the platform with actual hospitals. In addition, it will be responsible for providing real-time interpretation and translation support to resolve language communication issues for foreign patients and for linking accompanying services when patients visit hospitals.

Busan Metropolitan City expects that this agreement will accelerate the linkage between medical institutions and the platform and will continue to enhance foreign nationals’ access to healthcare through volunteer support and other initiatives.

Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, “This agreement is a meaningful starting point for achieving medical environment innovation that foreign residents and visitors can truly experience through close cooperation among the administration, the medical community, the media, and private enterprises.” He added, “Beyond simply improving reservation convenience, we will establish an integrated support system that removes language barriers throughout the entire process—from reception to treatment and follow-up care—creating a meaningful opportunity to improve the settlement environment of Busan as a global city.”

He further added, “By actively utilizing AI technology, we will make Busan a ‘Global Hub City’ where foreigners find it most comfortable to live and convenient to access medical services.”
