Mayor Park Heong-joon Announces Plan to Foster an Advanced Power Semiconductor Production Hub… Completion Ceremony Held for Dongnam Radiation Medical & Science General Industrial Complex

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Park Heong-joon, announced that it will hold the Completion Ceremony for the Dongnam Radiation Medical & Science General Industrial Complex today (27th) at 2:00 p.m. in Jangan-eup, Gijang-gun.

Approximately 200 attendees are expected at the ceremony, including Mayor Park Heong-joon, National Assembly Member Jeong Dong-man, Gijang County Mayor Jeong Jong-bok, city council members, and local residents.

The Dongnam Radiation Medical & Science General Industrial Complex, located in Jangan-eup, Gijang-gun, is an advanced cluster integrating radiation research, medical services, and industry. It serves as Busan’s future new growth hub, having been promoted since 2010 with the goal of fostering a power semiconductor production hub linked to the southern semiconductor innovation belt.

Busan Metropolitan City and Gijang-gun have advanced the project in stages, including: initiation of basic and detailed design services (2010); approval and official designation of the industrial complex plan (2012); commencement of construction (2014); completion of site preparation for the new research reactor for export (2015); completion of construction of the heavy ion accelerator therapy center (2016); completion of the Power Semiconductor Commercialization Center (2019); designation as a specialized complex for power semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment (2023); and designation as Busan-type Second Opportunity Development Special Zone (2024).

In addition, within the complex, major facilities are being established and developed, including a new research reactor for export, a heavy ion therapy center, the Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences, a radioisotope convergence research infrastructure facility, and the Power Semiconductor Commercialization Center. Related companies are also in the process of moving in.

The City expects that these developments will expand growth engines across Busan’s industries as a whole and continuously revitalize the local economy.
