Busan Metropolitan City to Host “2026 Integrated Briefing Session on Support Programs for Nuclear Power Companies” to Strengthen Competitiveness of the Nuclear Industry

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Park Heong-joon, announced that it will hold the “2026 Busan Metropolitan City Integrated Briefing Session on Support Programs for Nuclear Power Companies” today (the 26th) at 2:00 p.m. in the main conference hall on the second floor of the Busan Metropolitan Council, with the aim of fostering the local nuclear industry and strengthening the competitiveness of nuclear power companies.

Five institutions related to the regional nuclear power industry will participate in the session: the Southeast Regional Division of the Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials, the Southeast Technology Commercialization Division of the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, Busan Technopark, BEXCO, and the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education.

By integrating individual project briefings previously conducted by each implementing agency, the session is intended to provide a systematic overview of the City’s support programs for nuclear power companies located in the region, while also serving as a platform for sharing information on the nuclear industry and gathering opinions.

As a project implementing agency, the Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials will introduce the “Integrated Certification Support Program for Nuclear Power Plant Components and Equipment,” which supports quality certification for nuclear power companies, as well as the “Project to Establish a Manufacturing Support Center for SMR (Small Modular Reactor) Auxiliary Equipment,” which includes support for equipment infrastructure for SMRs.

The Korea Institute of Industrial Technology will present the “Support Program for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in Nuclear Equipment,” which assists with prototype production for small and medium-sized nuclear companies, and the “Specialized Research Institution Support Program,” which provides technical consultation for small and medium-sized enterprises located in the Busan Energy Industry Convergence Complex.

Busan Technopark will introduce the “Commercialization Support Program for Energy-Specialized Companies,” which assists companies designated as energy-specialized enterprises, and the “Energy Technology Sharing University Program Based on the Regional Nuclear Industry,” which establishes a collaborative framework among local governments, industries, universities, and research institutes.

The Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education will explain the “Vocational Education Innovation District Support Program,” which fosters workforce development in the regional nuclear sector through linkages among vocational high schools, local companies, and local universities.

In addition to support programs, the session will also provide information on major nuclear industry events hosted by the City.

On March 9, the City plans to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the “SMR Auxiliary Equipment Manufacturing Support Center” at 1529-5 Mieum-dong, Gangseo-gu. Furthermore, the “2026 Busan International Nuclear Industry Exhibition (INEX2026),” co-hosted by Busan Metropolitan City and the Korea Atomic Industrial Forum and organized by BEXCO, is scheduled to take place at BEXCO for three days from April 22 to April 24.
