Busan Metropolitan City Announces All Frequently Purchased Lunar New Year Agricultural Products Meet Safety Standards in Pesticide Residue Tests

Busan Metropolitan City Institute of Health & Environment (hereinafter referred to as the Institute) announced that, ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, it conducted pesticide residue tests on frequently purchased agricultural products to ensure food safety for citizens, and all 150 samples were found to be within the permissible limits and safe.

The inspections were carried out from January 26 to February 9 on 150 samples of agricultural products for ritual and gift purposes that were brought into the Eomgung Agricultural Wholesale Market and the Banyeo Agricultural Wholesale Market. By category, the samples consisted of 102 vegetable items (including spinach, green onions, and chili peppers), 44 fruit items (including apples, pears, and mandarins), 2 root and tuber items (sweet potatoes and potatoes), 1 mushroom item (oyster mushroom), and 1 spice plant item (bang-a leaves).

The Institute conducted a detailed analysis of 452 pesticide residue items and made every effort to preemptively block the distribution of harmful agricultural products by verifying their safety at the pre-distribution stage.

Test results are published monthly on the Institute’s website (https://www.busan.go.kr/ihe/healthdata04), and agricultural products deemed suitable after inspection are continuously donated to local social welfare facilities and food markets.

We will continue to establish a reliable food safety foundation for agricultural products through ongoing monitoring and prompt action.”
