Park Heong-joon to Conduct On-Site Inspections of Key Facilities Ahead of the Lunar New Year Holiday to Ensure a Safe and Comfortable Season

□ Today (Feb. 12), Mayor Park Heong-joon of Busan Metropolitan City will visit the 119 Integrated Situation Room at Busan Fire and Disaster Headquarters, Dongnae Bongsaeng Hospital, and Busan Central Bus Terminal to conduct on-site inspections of emergency medical response and the special transportation plan for the Lunar New Year holiday season.

○ These visits are intended to encourage personnel working through the Lunar New Year to keep Busan citizens safe and to support homebound travel, while also easing public concerns about emergency care during the holiday period by checking the establishment of an emergency treatment system among Busan Metropolitan City, fire services, and emergency medical institutions, and by directly overseeing holiday transportation measures and readiness on site.

□ First, he will visit the 119 Integrated Situation Room at Busan Fire and Disaster Headquarters to closely inspect the operations of the Emergency Medical Situation Management Center and the patient transport system.

○ The 119 Integrated Situation Room oversees 24-hour operations including disaster response and guidance on hospitals and pharmacies. In particular, for the Lunar New Year holiday, the Emergency Medical Situation Management Center is stepping up staffing and operating emergency duty shifts to provide real-time guidance based on information from 1,028 medical institutions, making every effort to ease public concerns over potential gaps in medical services during the holiday.

□ Mayor Park will then encourage firefighters who are carrying out special holiday vigilance duty, and will urge thorough management of emergency medical situations and a robust disaster response posture throughout the holiday period.

○ Busan Fire and Disaster Headquarters will implement special vigilance duty at fire stations for the Lunar New Year holiday (Feb. 13–19, 2026). Through on-site safety inspections, preemptive removal of risk factors, fire prevention, and proactive measures to prevent large-scale disasters, it plans to strengthen the initial response system by establishing a forward-leaning field response posture and reinforcing situation management.

□ Next, to review the status of emergency medical response during the Lunar New Year holiday, Mayor Park will visit Dongnae Bongsaeng Hospital, a regional emergency medical institution, and directly confirm on site the status of emergency care operations and the emergency response system.

○ He will inspect the 24-hour emergency room operation system and working conditions for medical staff during the holiday period, and will listen to on-site feedback focused on operational difficulties in selecting hospitals and transporting patients when emergencies occur, as well as areas requiring improvement.

□ Busan Metropolitan City is also advancing, in phases, the establishment of a “Busan-style emergency medical system” to enable swift and systematic responses by patient type and severity during periods when demand for emergency care surges, such as the Lunar New Year holiday.

○ Key measures include: promoting the designation of a regional trauma hub hospital to clearly define linkages between initial treatment and definitive care for severe trauma patients; and, for acute drug poisoning patients, introducing a stepwise care system by severity to structurally reduce hospital refusal and the likelihood of repeated transfers.

□ In addition, to minimize gaps in emergency medical services during the Lunar New Year holiday, Busan Metropolitan City plans to maintain 24-hour care systems at 29 emergency medical institutions, and to operate emergency medical situation rooms at the city and district/county public health centers, thereby activating an emergency response system among the city, public health centers, fire services, and emergency medical institutions to ensure seamless situation management.

□ Mayor Park will also visit Busan Central Bus Terminal to inspect holiday transportation measures and readiness, and to encourage terminal personnel who work through the holiday to support citizens’ safe and comfortable homebound travel.

○ As part of the holiday transportation plan inspection, the city will comprehensively check overall facility safety management—such as waiting areas and boarding platforms—along with the holiday emergency duty system and the status of additional transport services at Busan Central Bus Terminal, where crowds are expected during the holiday period.

○ Busan Metropolitan City plans to leave no gaps in managing holiday traffic conditions by reinforcing measures such as expanding passenger transport capacity for public transportation (buses, rail, and air), securing temporary parking lots, providing guidance ando inspecting the safety management of public transportation facilities, operating a transportation countermeasures situation room, and strengthening the traffic flow support and traffic safety response posture.

□ Finally, on the first day of the Lunar New Year holiday (Feb. 14), Mayor Park will conduct an on-site safety inspection for a high-density event—the Lunar New Year special performance of the Gwangalli M Drone Light Show—at the Suyeong-gu Living Culture Center and encourage personnel working through the holiday, before visiting the Busan Police Agency Highway Patrol Unit to inspect expressway safety management conditions and encourage on-site personnel.

□ Mayor Park said, “I extend my gratitude to the many people who devote themselves quietly in their respective roles, including in emergency medical and transportation fields,” adding, “We will leave no gaps in our comprehensive holiday situation management so that citizens can enjoy a safe and comfortable Lunar New Year.”
