Busan Metropolitan City Appoints Kim Kyung-duk as New Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Park Heong-joon, announced that Kim Kyung-duk, Director of the Daegu Center at the National Information Resources Service, will be appointed as Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs effective February 5 to fill the vacancy left since December 15 last year.

The new Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs, Kim Kyung-duk, is a senior public official who has long served at Busan Metropolitan City after graduating from Busan National University High School and Pusan National University and passing the 36th Higher Civil Service Examination.

At Busan Metropolitan City, he has served as Director of the International Cooperation Division, Head of the Marine Policy Division, Auditor, Director General of the Social Welfare Bureau, Deputy Head of Yeonje-gu District Office, Financial Officer, and Head of the Citizens Safety Office. In particular, after his promotion to a Grade 2 position, he held key posts at the core of city administration, including serving as Secretary General of the Busan Metropolitan Council and then returning to lead the Citizens Safety Office again. He is regarded as having a broad understanding of overall municipal administration and deep insight into local pending issues.

In addition, in September 2024, he moved to the Daegu Center of the National Information Resources Service under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, where he built experience in cooperation and policy coordination with central government ministries. With this appointment as Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs, he will return to Busan Metropolitan City’s municipal administration.

Busan Metropolitan City expects that the new vice mayor, who is from the region, will play a key role in securing the stability and continuity of city governance as Busan takes a leap forward as a Global Hub City, drawing on his extensive experience in municipal administration and strong understanding of internal administrative operations.

Meanwhile, immediately after taking office, the new Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs, Kim Kyung-duk, will receive briefings on major pending issues and begin reviewing key tasks by each bureau and headquarters, embarking in earnest on efforts to strengthen overall policy execution across city administration.
