Busan Library Seeks Small Libraries to Join “New Book Shelf for Our Apartment” Project

Busan Library announced that it will recruit small libraries in apartment complexes to participate in the “2026–2027 New Book Shelf for Our Apartment” project, which will begin in March this year, from February 4 to February 18.

The “New Book Shelf for Our Apartment” project is a program in which Busan Library lends 200 newly published books every two months to small libraries in apartment complexes, which then loan the books to residents. The project has been successfully operated since 2022.

This year’s project will run from March 2026 to December 2027. During this period, residents will be able to borrow newly published books from small libraries in apartment complexes—200 books every two months—for a total of 22 months.

Libraries wishing to apply must be private small libraries operated in apartment complexes registered in Busan Metropolitan City’s districts and counties, and they must meet all five of the following requirements: (1) a private small library operated in an apartment complex registered in a district or county of Busan Metropolitan City, (2) participation in the 2025 Busan Metropolitan City Small Library Operation Status Survey, (3) use of a book loan and management program, (4) availability of staff at all times during library operating hours, and (5) ability to operate a vehicle.

Busan Library plans to select seven participating small libraries in order of highest score, taking into account factors such as the number of households in the apartment complex, the operating hours of the small library, and the number of books in its collection.

Applications will be accepted from February 4 to February 18. Applicants must submit the project application form, the pledge for book management, and the library registration certificate by email (ryder35@korea.kr). Application forms can be found in the Notices section on the Busan Library website (library.busan.go.kr). The selection results will be individually notified only to the selected small libraries on February 25, 2026.
