Busan–Gyeongnam Administrative Integration Working-Level Consultative Body Holds Second Meeting

Busan Metropolitan City and Gyeongnam announced that they held the second meeting of the “Busan–Gyeongnam Administrative Integration Working-Level Consultative Body” at 2:00 p.m. today (January 22) in the video conference room on the 7th floor of City Hall.

This meeting followed the first meeting held on January 19 at the Gyeongnam Provincial Government building. A total of nine participants attended, including the Assistant Mayors of Planning and Coordination of both local governments, senior policy secretaries, directors of the Administrative Management Bureau, and representatives from municipal and provincial research institutes.

At today’s meeting, participants conducted more detailed coordination on the joint city–province position statement and the proposal to the central government that had been discussed at the first meeting.

During the first meeting, the participants discussed the administrative integration roadmap, including the core content to be included in the joint city–province position statement and the proposal to the central government, as well as plans for a residents’ referendum.

In addition, the two local governments agreed to jointly announce the Mayor and Governor’s position on administrative integration at 10:30 a.m. on January 28.

Meanwhile, the Administrative Integration Working-Level Consultative Body was established to coordinate practical issues arising between Busan and Gyeongnam during the integration 추진 process, and to seek joint response strategies with central government ministries and the National Assembly regarding the transfer of authority necessary to secure genuine local autonomy.

The consultative body is jointly headed by the Assistant Mayors of Planning and Coordination of both local governments and includes a total of ten members, such as senior policy secretaries, directors of the Administrative Management Bureau, and representatives from municipal and provincial research institutes. It will continue to operate until a special act on administrative integration is enacted.

Park Geun-rok, Director of the Administrative Management Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, stated, “By convening the second meeting without delay, the two local governments were able to promptly organize their positions on administrative integration,” adding, “Centered on this working-level consultative body, we will continue close consultations to steadily advance administrative integration without disruption.”
