Busan Metropolitan City Launches Call for Entries for the 2026 Busan Cultural Signboard Spring Edition

□ Busan Metropolitan City Mayor Park Heong-joon announced that the City will accept submissions from today (21) through February 4 for copy for the Spring Edition of the Busan Cultural Signboard to be displayed on the exterior wall of City Hall.

‘Busan Cultural Signboard,’ in operation since 2010, is a citizen-participation public design initiative that posts seasonal phrases proposed by citizens on the exterior wall of City Hall, communicating with residents and fostering cultural sentiment in the urban center.

□ Anyone who loves Busan may participate, and submissions must be Korean-language phrases of 25 characters or fewer that help citizens feel hope, love, and warm affection.

○ Submissions may be either original phrases created by the applicant or excerpts from literary works and other sources.

□ Applications can be submitted through the City website’s Events/Recruitment application page at busan.go.kr/minwon/occation. Applicants may also complete the application form provided in the posted notice and submit it by email (kyunghp1@korea.kr) or by mail to: Busan Metropolitan City Hall, 1001 Jungang-daero, Yeonje-gu, Busan (8th Floor), Attn: Busan Cultural Signboard Officer, Office of Urban Public Design.

○ When submitting an excerpt, the source must be clearly stated.

□ The winning entry and runner-up entries will be selected through screening by the Busan Writers Association and the Future Design Headquarters of Busan Metropolitan City. After design work is completed, the winning entry will be displayed on the exterior wall of City Hall starting in early March, welcoming the new spring of 2026.

○ Prizes will be awarded as follows: a gift certificate worth 500,000 won for the winning entry, and gift certificates worth 50,000 won each for six runner-up entries.

□ Seong Heui-yeob, Director General of Future Design Headquarters of Busan Metropolitan City, said, “The Busan Cultural Signboard is a place for communication in the heart of the city where we can share the thoughts and emotions of Busan citizens along with the changing seasons,” adding, “We hope many people will show interest and take part so that, through this call for spring copy, we can warmly color the cityscape with a fresh change as we welcome a new spring.”
