MDM Plus Co., Ltd. Delivers KRW 11 Billion Donation to Help Busan Rise as a World Design Capital

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold the “Busan Metropolitan City–MDM Plus Co., Ltd. Donation Delivery Ceremony” at 11:00 a.m. today (the 16th) in the International Protocol Office at City Hall.

Mayor Park Heong-joon, Gu Myeong-wan, CEO of MDM Plus Co., Ltd., and relevant officials will attend the ceremony and share the significance of public-private cooperation to expand the value of 2028 World Design Capital Busan.

The KRW 11 billion donation contributed by MDM Plus Co., Ltd. (CEO Gu Myeong-wan) will be used in full for the “World Design Capital Busan: Haeundae-gu Parks and Recreation Areas Design and Environmental Improvement Project.”

The donation is being provided as part of the company’s efforts to practice ESG (environmental, social, and governance) management, and it will be used for design and environmental improvement projects that cover the overall spaces, facilities, and landscapes of parks and recreation areas, targeting Haeundae Park, Dongbaek Park, and the Dongbaek Recreation Area.

This contribution is regarded as a representative example of private-sector cooperation aligned with the theme and direction of World Design Capital Busan. It is also expected to serve as an important opportunity to innovate citizens’ everyday spaces through design and to enhance the overall stature of the city.

Through this donation, Busan Metropolitan City plans to create a flagship public open rest area (open space) that can symbolically showcase the identity of World Design Capital Busan and to elevate the quality of the urban landscape in and around the Haeundae Tourism Special Zone to the next level.

In particular, through an integrated application of public design, it is expected to realize a coastal park space that citizens and visitors alike can truly experience as a place to walk, to stay, and to remember.

In addition, to advance the 2028 World Design Capital Busan initiative, the city will pursue design-centered urban policies based on public-private cooperation from this year (2026) through 2028 under the theme “An Inclusive City for All, Design We Create Together.” It also plans to roll out a range of step-by-step design projects with citizens.
