Busan Metropolitan City to Exhibit Award-Winning Entries from the “Happy Our Family, Stories of Busan Through the Four Seasons” Calendar Drawing Contest

□ Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will exhibit the award-winning works from the “Happy Our Family, Stories of Busan Through the Four Seasons” calendar drawing contest at the underground passageway connecting City Hall Station on Busan Metro Line 1, from today (31) through January 3 of next year.

○ Submissions and judging for this contest were conducted over four months from August to November, under the theme “Stories of our happy family together, connected with Busan’s four seasons.”

□ Approximately 500 children participated in the contest across three divisions—▲Preschool ▲Lower Elementary ▲Upper Elementary—and 50 works selected through expert review (1 Grand Prize, 3 Excellence Awards, 3 Merit Awards, 3 Encouragement Awards, and 40 Honorable Mentions) will be displayed.

□ At the exhibition, visitors can view artworks in which children depicted precious moments spent with their families at various places throughout Busan.

○ Professor Jeon Jae-seon of the Department of Early Childhood Education at Busan Health University, who served as a judge for the contest, commented, “Through this contest, it seems that children had an opportunity to take interest in the local community they belong to.”

○ Choi Sang-cheol, Vice Director of the Busan Art Association, said, “Compared to other judging sessions, there were many drawings that approached the work purely from a functional perspective, and I hope this becomes an opportunity for children to take greater interest in drawing.”

□ Some of the award-winning works will be featured in next year’s “Happy Our Family, Stories of Busan Through the Four Seasons” calendar, and will be distributed and utilized as promotional materials at public and related organizations to help improve public awareness of co-parenting and childcare.

□ Along with the exhibition, side events will also be held, including a “New Year Photo Zone” and a “Write a New Year’s Greeting Card” event.

○ In addition, various promotional materials introducing Busan’s childbirth and childcare support policies (including the city’s childbirth and childcare promotional materials such as “Cherished Like You” and “Pink Light”) will be distributed on site.

□ Park Seol-yeon, Director General of the Women and Family Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, stated, “Through this exhibition, I hope citizens can share and feel the beautiful four seasons of Busan as seen through the eyes of children,” adding, “Next year as well, our city will continue to establish a variety of policies to make Busan a better place to have and raise children.”
