Busan Metropolitan City Appoints Four Global Hydrogen Experts as Policy Advisors

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that, on the 22nd at 2:00 p.m., in connection with the “Busan Global Hydrogen Economy Symposium” held at The Westin Josun Busan, it appointed four world-renowned hydrogen experts as “Busan Metropolitan City Global Hydrogen Economy Policy Advisors.”

This appointment was arranged to establish an international, world-class policy advisory system in the hydrogen sector to support Busan’s leap toward becoming a global hydrogen hub city, and to receive professional policy advice on the hydrogen strategic projects currently being promoted by the city.

The appointed advisors are Professor Cho Nam-jun of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore; Takeo Yamaguchi, Director of the Laboratory for Chemistry and Life Science at the Institute of Integrated Research, Tokyo University of Science in Japan; Professor Huang Bing-chou of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology in Taiwan; and Professor Musa Bashir of the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom—international authorities representing the fields of hydrogen production, materials, manufacturing, and marine engineering.

Over the next two years, the advisors will provide advice on major policies and plans for Busan’s leap toward becoming a global hydrogen hub city, as well as matters related to their implementation. Their key functions include participation as speakers at international events such as the World Climate Industry Expo (WCE); advisory support for the establishment of the Busan Metropolitan City Basic Plan for Fostering the Hydrogen Industry; and regular consultations on discovering new hydrogen-related businesses and on priority projects.

Through the appointment of these policy advisors, the city plans to incorporate global hydrogen technology and policy trends into municipal administration and to systematically enhance the international competitiveness of Busan’s hydrogen industry.

Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, “The appointment of Global Hydrogen Economy Policy Advisors is an important opportunity to lay the policy foundation for Busan to stand shoulder to shoulder with hydrogen cities around the world,” adding, “Based on the professional advice of internationally renowned experts, we will grow Busan into a true global hydrogen hub city in both name and reality.”
