Busan Young Farmers’ Drone Farming Group Donates 400 Kilograms of “Rice of Love” to Local Children’s Centers

Busan Metropolitan City’s Agricultural Technology Center (hereinafter referred to as “the Center”) announced that the Busan Young Farmers’ Drone Farming Group donated 400 kilograms of “Hwanggeum Yechan,” a regionally specialized rice variety, to a local children’s center in Gangseo-gu at 3:30 p.m. today (December 18), delivering a message of warm sharing to the community.

Launched in 2020, the Busan Young Farmers’ Drone Farming Group (hereinafter referred to as “the Group”) is an organization fostered by the City’s Agricultural Technology Center to promote the expansion of drone-based agriculture. The Group is composed of members of the Busan Young Farmers Association (Chair: Nam Gi-dae) and is actively engaged in agricultural activities.

The Group applies advanced technologies such as drone-based pest control and fertilization to agricultural sites to produce high-quality agricultural products. In addition to smart farming practices, it has consistently participated in activities that contribute to rural development and the local community.
*Fertilization refers to the application of fertilizer to soil or crops to promote growth and increase yields.

The rice donated on this occasion, “Hwanggeum Yechan,” is a representative regionally specialized rice variety well suited to Busan’s local climate and soil conditions. It was cultivated and harvested directly by young farmers in the Group using drone-based smart farming technologies. This rice is a low-amylose, semi-glutinous variety—intermediate between nonglutinous and glutinous rice—with excellent stickiness and superior taste.

The Group selected the Gangseo Local Children’s Center as the recipient of the donation in the hope that growing children will eat rice produced in their own region and grow up healthy.

This act of sharing embodies the spirit of mutual growth by connecting local agriculture with local children, adding further significance by returning agricultural products grown in the region to the community.

A representative of the Group stated, “We made this donation with the hope that the children at the Gangseo Local Children’s Center will grow up strong and healthy by enjoying ‘Hwanggeum Yechan,’ our region’s specialized rice,” adding, “We will continue to strive to become a youth farming group that coexists with the local community through acts of sharing rooted in agriculture.”

Yoo Mi-bok, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, remarked, “Thanks to the support of this valuable and meaningful regionally specialized rice grown directly by young farmers, children will be able to enjoy nutritious meals,” and added, “We sincerely appreciate the warm hearts of these young people who will lead the future of local agriculture.”
