World-Class Women Golfers Unite to Support Youth Sports in Busan, Donating KRW 150 Million

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that today (the 7th) at 3 p.m., during the “Baeksong Holdings · Busan Ilbo Charity Match (CHARITY MATCH in ASISD C.C.)” held at Asiad Country Club, the participating players donated KRW 150 million to support the development of municipal sports.

Mayor Park Heong-joon, Son Young-shin, CEO of Busan Ilbo, Park Jeong-sam, Chairman of Baeksong Holdings, and Kim Do-hyung, CEO of Asiad Country Club, attended the donation ceremony.

This charity match, held for the first time this year, is a social contribution golf event jointly hosted by a local corporation and media outlet in Busan. It takes place from December 6 to 7, with total prize money of KRW 300 million.

World-class professional women golfers—Kim Hyo-joo, Choi Hye-jin, Hwang Yoo-min, Lee Ye-won, Park Hyun-kyung, and Bae So-hyun—participated in the tournament and donated 50 percent of the total prize money, expressing their hope “to make a small but meaningful contribution to improving the sports environment for youth in Busan.”

The donated funds, in accordance with the players’ intent and following deliberation by the municipal Donation Review Committee, will be used to install sports facilities supporting youth sports activities and to enhance community sports infrastructure.

Asiad Country Club, where the tournament is held, is an international-standard golf course renowned for its exceptional course quality and accessibility. It has built its reputation by successfully hosting major events such as the BMW Ladies Championship on the LPGA Tour and tournaments on the KPGA Tour.

As a city-funded institution, Asiad Country Club also contributes to the local community by supporting golf events for the 2025 National Sports Festival and National Para Games and by helping promote the Busan Charity Match.

Meanwhile, Busan Metropolitan City established the Sports Bureau in March this year—the first among local governments in the nation—with the goal of creating a “sports paradise city where sports become part of everyday life.” The city is pursuing diverse sports policies by hosting large-scale events and expanding sports infrastructure.

These efforts include hosting the National Sports Festival and National Para Games, the Seven Bridge Tour, and a professional volleyball team, revitalizing the four major professional sports, and holding the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Annual General Meeting—all of which enhance Busan’s city brand value and invigorate the local economy.

Additionally, through infrastructure expansion such as the reconstruction of Sajik Baseball Stadium, construction of the Korea Baseball Hall of Fame, and development of a sport climbing arena, Busan is creating an environment where all citizens can enjoy a healthy and vibrant sports culture.

Mayor Park Heong-joon emphasized, “The warm-hearted donations of athletes will greatly contribute to the development of sports,” adding, “We will continue to promote a diverse range of sports policies so that Busan can move forward as a city where sports are part of daily life, and we will further accelerate our efforts to create an environment where citizens can enjoy sports anytime, anywhere. I especially hope that this donation will encourage more athletes and companies to take interest in the advancement of local sports.”
