Busan Metropolitan City Receives the Prime Minister’s Institutional Commendation at the 62nd Trade Day Ceremony, Selected as the Best Metropolitan Municipality for Export Contribution

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that at the “2025 62nd Trade Day” ceremony held today (December 4) at 10:00 at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul, it has been selected as the “Best Metropolitan Municipality” for its contributions to export promotion and trade revitalization and will receive the Prime Minister’s Institutional Commendation from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The commendations for contributors to the 62nd Trade Day are part of the export merit government awards hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. These awards recognize companies, organizations, and local governments that have contributed to national economic development through efforts such as expanding exports, developing overseas markets, and promoting trade-related policies.

○ The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy presents institutional commendations to the top-performing metropolitan governments and regional export support centers. Local governments are evaluated through a comprehensive quantitative and qualitative review of criteria such as export performance during the relevant period, strategic export items, and export support measures.

○ Despite challenging circumstances, including a relatively low share of national exports and a business environment where 97.1 percent of local exporting companies are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the City was highly evaluated for its strong efforts to implement practical export support initiatives that companies can directly benefit from, including emergency export countermeasures, strengthening overseas marketing, and cultivating trade professionals.

The City will receive the institutional commendation as the sole awardee among the 17 metropolitan and provincial governments nationwide.

○ This achievement reflects Busan Metropolitan City’s proactive response to rapidly changing global trade dynamics—such as U.S. tariff policies—and its systematic advancement of export support policies tailored to the actual needs of local companies.

To support local SMEs struggling due to the launch of the new Trump administration in the United States, the intensification of protectionism, international disputes, and fluctuations in exchange rates and global logistics costs, the City swiftly established emergency export measures and has been providing on-site assistance through initiatives including:
▲ emergency support for companies affected by tariffs ▲ expanded trade finance support ▲ enhanced logistics cost support ▲ assistance for developing new export markets ▲ establishment of crisis-response systems.

○ In addition, to boost exports of key items, the City has strengthened overseas marketing efforts, supported the growth of export-oriented companies, expanded trade-related infrastructure, and broadened domestic and international networks. These efforts have enhanced Busan’s trade response capacity and elevated its status as a global trade hub city.

Meanwhile, on December 12, the City will hold the “2025 Busan Trade Day” ceremony at Paradise Hotel Busan, inviting representatives from companies receiving the 62nd Trade Day Export Tower Awards and other business leaders to encourage local SMEs that continue to pursue export growth despite difficult circumstances.

Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, “Being selected as the Best Metropolitan Municipality for export contribution and receiving the Prime Minister’s Commendation is the result of our local business community’s dedication and the close collaboration between the City and export-related institutions.” He added, “Busan Metropolitan City will continue to make every effort to provide practical export support so that our companies can expand even further into global markets amid the rapidly changing international trade environment.”
