Busan Metropolitan City Wins Excellence Award in the “2025 Architectural Management System Implementation Competition”

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it received the Excellence Award (Director General of the Korea Infrastructure Safety Corporation Award) in the System Operation category of the “2025 Architectural Management System Implementation Competition,” jointly hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Infrastructure Safety Corporation.

The competition, hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and organized by the Korea Infrastructure Safety Corporation, aims to strengthen the implementation of architectural inspection systems in line with the purpose of the “Building Management Act” and to discover exemplary cases.

Launched in 2020, the competition newly introduced a System Operation category this year for local governments. Through a two-stage evaluation process—document review (1st round) and presentation review (2nd round)—the judges selected one Grand Prize and three Excellence Awards in the public sector (system operation), and one Grand Prize, three Excellence Awards, and two Merit Awards in the private sector (technology enhancement). The award ceremony took place yesterday (December 3) at the Chungbuk C&V Center in Cheongju.

During the presentation evaluation held on November 27, the City received positive assessments for its presentation titled “Enhancing Citizen-Centered Architectural Management and Establishing a Disaster Prevention Framework,” in which it showcased systematic operational practices for architectural management based on real inspection cases.

The City presented its achievements in active system implementation, including:
• Conducting safety inspections at interior construction sites after building use approval,
• Conducting comprehensive surveys on exterior finishing materials of buildings, and
• Establishing a management system for entering inspection and survey data into the City’s internal platform.

These efforts contributed to concrete improvements, including:
• Identifying and managing safety-vulnerable elements,
• Strengthening the effectiveness of post-construction safety management, and
• Establishing a data-driven architectural safety management framework—achievements that were highly evaluated.

In particular, the City highlighted its construction of a data system for inspection results—including those for exterior finishing materials—through the independently developed and operated “Busan Architectural Support System (BASS).” It emphasized that the system enables the accumulation and comprehensive management of lifecycle data for buildings.

Since architectural management is directly linked to public safety, the City underscored the importance of integrating architectural information and announced plans to actively utilize its internal system not only in policy development but also in future implementation phases.

Bae Seong-taek, Director of the Housing & Architecture Bureau, stated, “We will continue to strengthen the professionalism and systematic nature of architectural safety management and make active use of data-based analysis to create a safer and more secure urban environment for our citizens.”
