Busan Metropolitan City Hosts Consumer Rights Week to Mark the 30th Consumer Day, Promoting Stronger Consumer Protection

Busan Metropolitan City announced that, in celebration of the 30th Consumer Day (December 3), it will operate Consumer Day Week from December 1 to 5 to raise awareness of consumer rights and broaden recognition of consumer protection.

This year’s Consumer Day Week begins on December 1 with the “Visiting Consumer Damage-Prevention Education for Young Adults” (a total of nine sessions). From December 2 to 5, the 30th Consumer Day Ceremony and the 38th Consumer Information Exhibition will take place at Seomyeon Jungang Mall. In addition, on December 3, the Consumer Day Seminar will be held in the main auditorium on the first floor of City Hall, alongside various other programs.

The “Visiting Consumer Damage-Prevention Education for Young Adults” targets high school seniors and provides focused training on issues young adults should be aware of, including the risks of illegal overseas employment, prevention of voice phishing, and consumer damage-prevention methods for different product categories.

The education program will be conducted for approximately 1,400 students across nine schools, including Busan Baegyang High School, Banyeo Girls’ High School, Deokmun High School, Deokmun Girls’ High School, Gyeongnam Girls’ High School, Gudeok High School, Busan Jungang High School, Teresa Girls’ High School, and Busan Technical High School.

The 30th Consumer Day Ceremony will be held on December 2 at 9 a.m. in the lobby on the first floor of Lotte Department Store’s Busan Main Branch. The ceremony will include the signing of an MOU on disability consumer education and an award presentation for contributors to consumer rights promotion.

On this day, Mayor Park Heong-joon will join Kim Hyang-ran, Chair of the Busan Consumer Organizations Council, and Cho Chang-yong, Chair of the Busan Association of Persons with Disabilities, to commit to cooperation in promoting consumer education and damage-prevention activities for persons with disabilities.

Busan Metropolitan City will provide administrative support and create the foundation for carrying out the education program. The Busan Consumer Organizations Council will dispatch professional instructors and support the development and operation of educational content. The Busan Association of Persons with Disabilities will be responsible for recruiting participants and providing opportunities for participation.

In addition, Busan Metropolitan City Council Members Seong Hyeon-dal and Lee Seung-woo will receive the “Outstanding Public Servant Award” presented by civic and consumer organizations in recognition of their dedication to improving consumer rights in the city.

Following the ceremony, the 38th Consumer Information Exhibition will run through December 5 at Seomyeon Jungang Mall. The exhibition will feature various citizen-participatory displays on topics such as consumer information, consumer counseling trends and damage statistics, consumer safety, and environmental issues.

The Consumer Day Seminar will be held on December 3 at 2 p.m. in the main auditorium on the first floor of City Hall, jointly hosted by Busan Metropolitan City and the Busan Consumer Organizations Council.

The seminar will be attended by approximately 100 citizens and members of consumer organizations and will focus on the theme “The Evolution of Phishing Fraud and Response Strategies.”

Prior to the seminar, the Mayor’s Commendation will be awarded to nine individuals who have contributed to improving consumer rights in Busan.
