Commemorating 30 Years of Local Autonomy, Busan Metropolitan City Hosts the 2025 Community Council Program Competition

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will host the 2025 Busan Metropolitan City Community Council Program Competition today (28th) at 13:20 in the City Hall main auditorium.

The event will be attended by Mayor Park Heong-joon, district mayors, presidents of Community Council Chairpersons’ Associations from 16 districts and counties, community council members from towns, townships, and neighborhoods, and more than 600 Busan citizens. The program will proceed in the following order:
• Introduction of distinguished guests and welcoming remarks
• Performances by 16 participating teams
• Announcement of results and awards ceremony.

Marking its 6th year, the Community Council Program Competition showcases outstanding programs selected throughout the year by each district and county and presents their achievements on stage, establishing itself as a large-scale civic festival where all citizens can participate and enjoy together.

In particular, as this year marks the 30th anniversary of the introduction of autonomous local governance, the sharing of achievements and expansion of creative programs through events and festivals such as today’s competition holds significant meaning. It plays an important role in vitalizing citizen participation and fostering warm and inclusive local communities, reinforcing the role of community councils as a cornerstone of grassroots democracy.

The competition will feature the following performances:
• Line dance by Sajik 2-dong, Dongnae-gu
• Nanta percussion by Gwaebeop-dong, Sasang-gu
• Zumba dance by Yeongseon 1-dong, Yeongdo-gu
• Janggu performance by Yongho 4-dong, Nam-gu
• Cup percussion by Seo 3-dong, Geumjeong-gu
• Nanta performance by Deokcheon 1-dong, Buk-gu
• Line dance by Mangmi 2-dong, Suyeong-gu
• Choir performance by Bosu-dong, Jung-gu
• Korean traditional dance by Danggam 1-dong, Busanjin-gu
• Hula dance and instrumental performance by Yeonsan 1-dong, Yeonje-gu
• Line dance by Jwa 2-dong, Haeundae-gu
• Korean traditional dance by Jangan-eup, Gijang-gun
• Folk guitar performance by Dadae 1-dong, Saha-gu
• Korean traditional dance by Myeongji 1-dong, Gangseo-gu
• Line dance by Choryang 1-dong, Dong-gu
• Yoga and health gymnastics by Amnam-dong, Seo-gu.

A total of 16 teams will compete, and following a fair evaluation, Busan Metropolitan City will present awards to six teams, including one Grand Prize winner, two Excellence Award winners, and three Encouragement Award winners.

During his congratulatory remarks, Mayor Park Heong-joon will state, “This year marks the meaningful 30th anniversary of grassroots local autonomy, made brighter by the participation of each and every citizen. Your passionate involvement is the true competitive strength that narrows regional gaps and promotes balanced urban development. Through community governance shaped directly by our citizens, let us work together to create a Busan we would choose again in our next life.”
