Busan Metropolitan City Hosts the 4th Employee Blood Donation Day to Promote a Culture of Life-Sharing

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold the 4th “Employee Blood Donation Day” today (November 28) from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., operating three blood donation buses along the road between City Hall and the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency.

○ The city is implementing the program for the fourth time this year to promote “meaningful giving that saves neighbors through blood donation” and to help overcome the winter blood supply shortage.

This year’s group blood donation event was organized to expand a culture of life-sharing led by public officials amid instability in blood supply levels.

○ As of yesterday (27th), the city’s blood reserves stand at 3.9 days, corresponding to the “Concern” stage of the national blood supply alert system. This barely exceeds the minimum three-day reserve required for emergency preparedness. If temperatures drop further and group donations decrease, instability in the blood supply is anticipated.

○ In particular, with year-end academic schedules and various events limiting participation from schools and workplaces, challenges in securing blood through group donations are expected.

Anyone—including employees of City Hall, the Busan Metropolitan Council, and the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, as well as the general public—may take part in the donation.

○ To prevent blood shortages, the city conducts group blood donations once every quarter, totaling four times a year, and also encourages participating employees to use official leave.

Our city will take the lead in broadening the foundation for blood donation participation and fostering a culture of life-sharing together with our citizens.”
