Busan Metropolitan City to Host the “2025 Busan Volunteer Conference and the National Sports Festival and National Para Games Volunteer Closing Ceremony”

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will host the “2025 Busan Volunteer Conference and the National Sports Festival and National Para Games Volunteer Closing Ceremony” today (27th) at 2:00 p.m. at the BEXCO Auditorium.

This event is organized by the city and hosted by the Busan Volunteer Center (Director Park Kyung-ok), with support from the Busan Metropolitan Council and the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education. It aims to recognize and encourage volunteers who have contributed to the advancement of volunteerism in Busan and to the successful operation of the National Sports Festival and National Para Games.

At the event, Mayor Park Heong-joon will be joined by Lee Jong-hwan, Vice Chairperson of the Busan Metropolitan Council; Lee Gang-guk, Deputy Superintendent of the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education; Jang In-hwa, President of the Busan Sports Council; Kim Seon-gil, Secretary-General of the Busan Para Sports Association; and approximately 2,500 volunteers, in celebrating the dedication of volunteers through an awards ceremony, celebratory performances, and more.

A total of 90 awards will be presented, including 63 Mayoral Citations, 5 Council Chairperson’s Certificates of Appreciation, 5 Superintendent’s Awards, and 17 Honorary Volunteer Badges (awarded to volunteers who have completed over 10,000 hours of service), expressing gratitude for the dedication volunteers have shown throughout the year, both in the community and at Sports Festival sites.

In particular, Yoon Hye-ju (age 70), President of the Enjoy Volunteer Group, who will receive a commendation for her contributions to the Sports Festival, played a significant role in ensuring the stable operation of the event. Throughout the National Sports Festival and National Para Games period, she supported competition operations, assisted spectators, and worked on-site every single day without absence.

Yoon has long been committed to disaster relief efforts and community-sharing activities, actively embodying the “life of a volunteer.” Her steady commitment and sense of responsibility have elevated the dignity of volunteerism in Busan and set an admirable example for citizens.

Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all volunteers who have shared warmth throughout our city this year. In particular, the successful completion of the National Sports Festival and National Para Games was possible thanks to the dedication of each and every citizen.” He added, “Busan will continue to be a strong partner in establishing a sustainable volunteer system for our city.”
