Busan Metropolitan City to Host the 2025 Busan Maritime & Finance Week (BMFW) to Advance Its Vision as a Global Maritime Finance Hub

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will host the “2025 Busan Maritime & Finance Week (BMFW)” today (November 25) and tomorrow (November 26) at Lotte Hotel Busan.

Now in its fifth year, the 2025 Busan Maritime & Finance Week is an integrated event combining various programs hosted individually by maritime finance-related institutions. The event is jointly organized by Busan Metropolitan City, the Financial Supervisory Service, Korea Ocean Business Corporation, and the Busan Finance Center, and hosted by the Busan Finance Center.

This year’s event is themed “Busan, Where the Ocean Meets Capital: The Global Maritime Finance Hub,” and features the joint opening ceremony, the Financial Supervisory Service’s “Busan Maritime Finance Convention,” and the Korea Ocean Business Corporation’s “BADA Conference.”

Renowned domestic and international scholars and experts have been invited to share insights on the latest trends in maritime finance and prospects for the global shipping market. The event is expected to provide a platform for knowledge exchange through lectures and in-depth panel discussions on strategies to advance Busan as a maritime finance hub.

The joint opening ceremony will take place today (November 25) at 11:00 a.m., featuring a keynote speech by Jeong Eun-bo, Chairman of the Korea Exchange, following opening and welcoming remarks. Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs Lee Jun-seung, Financial Supervisory Service Governor Lee Chan-jin, Korea Ocean Business Corporation President Ahn Byung-gil, Busan Finance Center President Lee Myung-ho, Korea Maritime & Ocean University President Ryu Dong-geun, and approximately 350 domestic and international maritime finance professionals will attend to commemorate the opening.

The Financial Supervisory Service’s “Maritime Finance Convention,” also held today, will consist of two sessions under the theme “Maritime Capital Hub: The Future of Maritime Finance and the Capital Market in Busan.”

The first session will feature presentations on development strategies for strengthening Busan as a maritime-specialized financial hub and the future direction of Busan’s maritime finance center. The second session will focus on corporate value enhancement strategies for the shipbuilding and shipping industries, followed by presentations and panel discussions on maritime finance development through capital market revitalization as part of Busan’s specialized finance hub.

On November 26, the Korea Ocean Business Corporation will host the “2025 BADA Conference,” which includes a global session sharing insights on global macroeconomic trends and outlooks, logistics and infrastructure trends and outlooks, and developments and forecasts for the container shipping market.

Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs Lee Jun-seung stated, “It is highly meaningful that this year’s Busan Maritime Finance Week brings together leading domestic and international scholars and experts to discuss the latest developments in maritime finance and the global shipping and logistics markets.” He added, “Through a wide range of programs, we expect robust discussions on strengthening the competitiveness of the maritime industry and developing a Busan-style maritime finance hub model.”

He continued, “The expert insights and proposals discussed during this event will serve as a valuable stepping stone for Busan to advance as a ‘global maritime finance hub where the ocean meets capital.’ Busan Metropolitan City will continue to actively establish the necessary infrastructure and policy support to foster an ecosystem where the financial and maritime industries grow together.”
