Busan Metropolitan City Holds Launch Ceremony for “Team Busan” 2nd Cohort for CES 2026, Completing Preparations for the Stage of Innovation

Busan Metropolitan City announced that Mayor Park Heong-joon hosted the launch ceremony for the 2nd cohort of Team Busan, which will participate in CES 2026, at 3 p.m. today (21st) at Space Wonji in Yeongdo-gu, marking the official debut of the integrated Busan Pavilion.

○ The ceremony was attended by Vice Mayor for Future Innovation Seong Heui-yeob, representatives of participating companies, heads of affiliated institutions, university program directors, and student supporters—around 100 participants—who together began the challenge toward next year’s CES 2026.

○ The venue, Space Wonji, is a cultural complex created by transforming a 100-year-old warehouse in Yeongdo Port into a space combining dining, exhibitions, and performances. Its symbolism as an example of “spatial innovation” adds significance to the launch of the 2nd cohort of Team Busan.

The launch ceremony was attended by 28 participating companies, supporters, and related institutions—around 100 people—and proceeded in three parts.

○ In Part 2, the City provided a briefing on the preparation status for the CES 2026 integrated Busan Pavilion.

Meanwhile, the integrated Busan Pavilion was operated for the first time at CES 2025 held earlier this year in Las Vegas. A total of four institutions and 23 companies participated, achieving USD 1.12 million (KRW 1.6 billion) in onsite contracts. Six companies won CES Innovation Awards across seven categories. For CES 2026, 11 companies received Innovation Awards and two companies won Best of Innovation Awards, marking the best performance ever.

○ The City plans to further expand the participation of promising innovative companies in next year’s event (from 23 companies to 28) and, by linking the program to the regional university RISE initiative, to advance a global expansion model based on industry–academia cooperation.

Mayor Park Heong-joon stated that Team Busan “will continue to be supported so that it can establish itself as a representative innovation brand of Busan, grounded in accumulated experience and networks.” He added, “Just like next year’s official CES 2026 slogan, Innovators Show Up, Busan companies will showcase even more innovative achievements on the global stage, and we will do our utmost to ensure their technological capabilities are fully recognized.”
