‘Beauty, Light, and Window of ASEAN’ Comes to Busan — Busan ASEAN Week 2025 to Be Held for Ten Days

Busan Metropolitan City announced that it will host “Busan ASEAN Week 2025” from November 21 to November 30 at the Dong-gu Cultural Platform (Exit 8 of Busanjin Station on the Busan Metro).

“Busan ASEAN Week” is an international cultural exchange event joined by citizens, ASEAN diplomatic representatives, international students, and companies seeking to expand into the ASEAN region. The event began following the successful hosting of the 2019 Korea–ASEAN Special Summit, and has since become a platform to foster citizen diplomacy and strengthen sustainable cooperation with ASEAN.

The event is hosted by Busan Metropolitan City and jointly organized by the Busan Global City Foundation (CEO Jeon Yong-woo) and the KF ASEAN Culture House (Director Ji Chang-seon).

This year’s Busan ASEAN Week 2025 will be held under the theme “ASEAN+3 Lounge,” featuring the core concepts of “Beauty of ASEAN,” “Light of ASEAN,” “Window of ASEAN,” and “Dream of Korea-China-Japan.”

The opening ceremony will take place today (21st) at 17:00, with attendance from the Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs, ambassadors of ASEAN member states, heads of foreign missions in Busan, students from multicultural schools, and other domestic and international representatives. The ceremony will include opening remarks, congratulatory speeches, a celebratory performance by Park Sang-yong and the Busan National University Convergence Dance Troupe, and a lantern-lighting program.

During the event week, a variety of themed exhibitions and hands-on programs related to ASEAN will be offered, designed to appeal to families and general visitors alike.

Under the theme “Beauty of ASEAN,” programs will include country showcases, souvenir exhibits, a healing space inspired by ASEAN resort styles, and an ASEAN beverage and dessert market.

Under the theme “Light of ASEAN,” a lantern display representing each ASEAN country will be presented.

Under the theme “Window of ASEAN,” hands-on cultural programs will be offered, such as weaving rattan baskets and keyrings; making dok champa (Laos national flower) brooches; and trying on traditional costumes of various ASEAN countries.

In addition, under the theme “Dream of Korea-China-Japan,” selected works from the 13th Korea-China-Japan Children’s Art Fair held earlier this year will be exhibited, creating a cultural space for communication and exchange among ASEAN and the three Northeast Asian countries.

Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs Lee Jun-seung stated:

“Busan ASEAN Week is a meaningful international cultural platform where ASEAN and Northeast Asia come together in harmony and dialogue. This year, especially after reaffirming the importance of Asia-Pacific cooperation through the APEC Summit, we aim to further strengthen our cooperative networks with ASEAN and develop this event into a sustainable exchange venue shaped together with future generations.”

He added, “We hope that citizens will feel welcome to visit, experience diverse ASEAN cultures, and gain opportunities to better understand one another.”
