A City Where Sharing Becomes a Daily Practice: Busan Metropolitan City Hosts the “2025 Kimchi Sharing Festival of Love”

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will host the “2025 Kimchi Sharing Festival of Love” today (19th) at 10:00 a.m. on the 3rd floor of Exhibition Hall 2 at BEXCO.

This sharing event is organized by the city and co-hosted by the Busan Volunteer Center (Director Park Gyeong-ok), 16 district and county volunteer centers, and BEXCO Co., Ltd. It is the largest kimchi-sharing event in the Busan region.

Event Overview

‧ Participants: Approximately 1,000 people (corporate employees and executives, volunteers from related institutions and organizations, invited guests, etc.)

‧ Sponsors: 40 companies (over 2 billion KRW)

Marking its 15th year, this event is supported by 40 companies and institutions that have represented Busan through their continued practice of giving and sharing, contributing donations totaling more than 2 billion KRW.

Mayor Park Heong-joon, along with Busan City Council Chairperson An Seong-min, executives and employees of sponsoring companies and institutions, representatives of volunteer organizations, and volunteers—more than 1,000 participants in total—will prepare approximately 10,000 heads of kimchi weighing 31 tons.

The completed kimchi will be delivered in five-kilogram portions to more than 6,200 households across Busan that are in need of warmth and support, including seniors living alone. This represents an increase of 700 households compared to 2024.

In addition, seven members of “Dream of a Seagull,” honorary ambassadors of the Busan Volunteer Center, will join the “Sharing Warmth” campaign. This campaign encourages citizens to support neighbors facing social and economic hardship and aims to build “a warm Busan, a city filled with compassion” through civic participation.

A food truck service will also be operated to provide warm meals and beverages to participants. The Haeundae District Volunteer Center will offer vegetable stew with rice, while the Buk-gu Volunteer Center will serve coffee and tea, sharing warmth with volunteers who participate in the kimchi-sharing event despite the cold weather.

Mayor Park stated, “Thanks to the continued participation of citizens and the support of companies, we are able to share ‘Kimchi of Love’ with even more households this year. I extend my sincere gratitude to the sponsoring companies and the volunteers who have taken the lead in practicing neighborly love,” and added, “I hope this event will continue to grow as a leading sharing initiative that helps create ‘a city where sharing becomes a daily practice’ in Busan.”
