Busan Metropolitan City Launches “Foreign Participants’ Galmaetgil Walking Program” – The World Walks Busan’s Trails!

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will operate the “Foreign Students’ Galmaetgil Walking Program,” a two-day, one-night event from November 7 (Friday) to November 8 (Saturday), to promote the city’s representative walking trail, “Busan Galmaetgil,” both domestically and internationally.

This program is designed to allow foreign students enrolled at universities in Busan to personally experience the city’s nature and culture by walking the Galmaetgil and to share their experiences via personal social networking services (SNS), thereby spreading awareness of Busan to audiences at home and abroad.

The walking program participants were recruited from foreign students attending 22 universities in Busan, and a total of 83 international students from four universities — Silla University, Dong-A University, Dongseo University, and Kyungsung University — are taking part in the event.

The program began on the morning of November 7 with a launching ceremony at the banquet hall of Arpina Hotel in Haeundae, where participants were introduced to the history and major routes of the Busan Galmaetgil, deepening their understanding of the trail before beginning their walk.

Participants will then travel to Oryukdo, a symbolic point where the East Sea and South Sea meet at the southernmost tip of Busan, and complete the 4.5-kilometer “YOLO Galmaetgil” Course 5 (Igidae embracing Oryukdo). They will also walk part of the “YOLO Galmaetgil” Course 6 (Around Yeongdo’s Huinnyeoul Culture Village) and visit Arte Museum and PIARC in Yeongdo-gu to experience Busan’s art and cultural spaces.

On the second day, November 8, the participants will join citizens at the “15th Galmaetgil International Walking Festival” held at Haeundae Beach, celebrating the walking event together while showcasing Busan as a global maritime city and a leading destination for walking tourism.

Ahn Cheol-soo, Director General of the Green City Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, stated, “This program, where foreign students experience the Galmaetgil firsthand and discover the nature and culture of Busan, will serve as an opportunity to raise international awareness of the Busan Galmaetgil. We will continue to expand various overseas promotional programs to develop Galmaetgil into a world-class walking tourism trail.”
