Banyeo Agricultural Wholesale Market Selected as an ‘Excellent’ Institution by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs

Busan Metropolitan City’s Banyeo Agricultural Wholesale Market Management Office announced that the market was ranked second nationwide and selected as an ‘Excellent’ wholesale market in the 2024 National Evaluation of Public Wholesale Market Operations conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

The Ministry conducts this evaluation every year to identify directions for advancing the nation’s wholesale markets by encouraging improvements in market operations and management efforts among distribution entities.

The evaluation items cover 12 areas, including efforts for management improvement and operational efficiency, expansion of public interest roles, logistics efficiency, revitalization of fixed-price and private contracts, guidance and training for intermediate wholesalers, and facility operation and management efforts—comprehensively assessing the overall operation of each wholesale market.

In particular, the Banyeo Agricultural Wholesale Market was highly rated for its efforts to expand its public role. The market, in cooperation with distribution workers such as the Nonghyup Banyeo Auction House, Busan Jungang Fruits & Vegetables Co., Ltd., Dongbu Fruits & Vegetables Co., Ltd., the Seasoning Settlement Cooperative, and the Shopping Mall Cooperative, held a “Sharing Kimchi Cabbage of Love” event. During this event, 9,000 heads of kimchi cabbage were donated to 10 community welfare centers in Haeundae-gu and to underprivileged neighbors through the Red Cross and Saemaeul Women’s Association in Gijang-gun, contributing to the spread of a culture of sharing.

As a result of receiving the ‘Excellent’ rating, the Banyeo Agricultural Wholesale Market will receive additional benefits, such as extra points, during future evaluations related to the modernization of wholesale market facilities.

Meanwhile, in the wholesale corporation category, Dongbu Fruits & Vegetables Co., Ltd. within the Banyeo Wholesale Market was also selected as an ‘Excellent’ wholesale corporation.
