Notice of Traffic Control in Gwangan Tunnel Due to Installation of Disaster Prevention Equipment

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that traffic will be restricted on certain sections of Gwangan Tunnel—from Gwangan-dong, Suyeong-gu, to Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu—from today (November 6) through November 21, due to construction work for installing emergency outlets as part of disaster prevention facilities within the tunnel.

This project aims to install emergency power outlets to supply power to firefighting and life-saving equipment in the event of fires or other disasters inside the tunnel. The construction is being carried out by Dongwoo Fire Protection Co., Ltd.

Project Overview

• ●Project Name: Installation of Emergency Outlet Facilities in Gwangan Tunnel

• ●Location: Gwangan Tunnel (Gwangan-dong, Suyeong-gu – Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu)

• ●Scope: Installation of emergency power outlets, indoor fire hydrants, piping, and wiring works, etc.

• ●Construction Period: September 1 – November 29, 2025
  (Traffic control will be enforced only during a portion of the overall construction period.)

Traffic control will be implemented from 10:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following day (6 hours and 30 minutes) to minimize congestion during commuting hours. The restrictions will be completely lifted at 5:00 a.m. on November 21.

During the control period, one lane (the first lane) out of two lanes in each direction of Gwangan Tunnel will be closed, while the remaining lanes will remain open to minimize inconvenience to citizens.

Min Soon-ki, Director of the Urban Space Planning Bureau, stated,
“We will complete the construction safely and promptly to shorten the control period and minimize inconvenience for road users. We ask for the active cooperation and understanding of citizens during this period.”
