Special Busan Future Economy Forum Invites Commercial District Innovation Expert Ryu Jeong-su, CEO of Glow Seoul

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) and the Busan Economic Promotion Agency (President Song Bok-chul) announced that they will hold the 105th Special Busan Future Economy Forum at 3 p.m. tomorrow (October 31) in the International Conference Hall on the 12th floor of Busan City Hall, inviting Ryu Jeong-su, CEO of Glow Seoul, as the keynote speaker.

This special forum has been organized in commemoration of “Small Business Owners’ Day” on November 5 to share vivid experiences and creative field strategies for city commercial district branding, while reexamining the value of Busan’s commercial areas and realizing people-centered spaces where visitors wish to stay.

The forum will be attended by around 300 participants, including senior city officials, representatives of public corporations and institutions, corporate leaders, and small business owners. Following CEO Ryu’s lecture, a Q&A session with the audience will take place.

Since 2015, the city has held the “Busan Future Economy Forum” about once a month to study and share domestic and international economic and social trends, diagnose Busan’s key economic issues, and propose policy alternatives for the city’s development.

Ryu Jeong-su, a leading expert in city branding and innovative commercial design management, will deliver an in-depth lecture titled “Busan Commercial District Revitalization and Success Strategies.” His talk will cover vivid experiences in urban spatial branding, the revaluation of Busan’s commercial districts, and success secrets achieved through innovative management.

CEO Ryu, a space-solution planner and developer specializing in urban regeneration-based projects, has led customized commercial district creation projects in regions such as Ikseon-dong in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and Soje-dong in Dong-gu, Daejeon. He has also overseen major space design and branding projects for large corporations, including Lotte Group and Shinsegae Property Co., Ltd., actively contributing to various commercial district revitalization initiatives.

Meanwhile, as part of its core policy for realizing a “City of Innovative Economic Growth Hubs,” Busan Metropolitan City has set its sights on establishing “Busan, the City of Vibrant Local Commerce.” The city is focusing on fostering innovative small business owners and discovering specialized commercial districts to build a dynamic economic foundation.

The city is also operating policy funds totaling a record 2.033 trillion won to support the management stability of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and small business owners. Furthermore, it is expanding projects such as the Long-term Safe Store Program, the Yellow Umbrella Mutual Aid, and subsidies for employment and industrial accident insurance premiums to reduce management burdens and strengthen the social safety net.

In addition, Busan is enhancing its local commercial competitiveness by strengthening alleyway business capabilities, identifying specialized districts, modernizing traditional market facilities, improving infrastructure such as parking, and nurturing small business owners with growth potential into entrepreneurial-type businesspeople. Through these efforts, the city is establishing a virtuous cycle in which both commercial districts and the city grow together.

Kim Bong-chul, Assistant Mayor of the Digital Economy Office, stated, “Through this special forum, Busan will transform its commercial districts from mere business spaces into people-centered areas that embody the city’s philosophy and identity. Our goal is to enhance citizens’ satisfaction and go beyond simple revitalization, injecting new vitality into the local economy so that Busan can firmly establish itself as a city where innovation and vibrancy coexist.”
