Busan Port Meets Jazz… Jazz Performances Planned for November

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will host a jazz performance series themed “Busan Port Meets Jazz (BUSAN JAZZ PORT),” integrating the maritime and urban identity of Busan with jazz music.
The performances will be held every Saturday at 6 p.m. throughout November at Space Wonji in Yeongdo District.

Performance Details – “Busan Port Meets Jazz (BUSAN JAZZ PORT)”

• ●Audience: Busan citizens and domestic/foreign tourists

• ●Program: A jazz concert branded with the atmosphere of Busan as a port city, combining great music, food, and style for an open, relaxing experience

• ●Organizer/Host: Busan Metropolitan City / Space Wonji & Art Planning Maeummiin

The city organized this event to enhance its cultural brand, expand citizens’ access to performances, and establish a foundation for local artists’ musical activities. Busan plans to continue nurturing the jazz genre as a distinctive cultural content of the region, thereby broadening the base of the popular music industry.

The event has been designed as a pilot program through collaboration between Busan Metropolitan City, Space Wonji (a multi-purpose cultural venue), and local artists to invigorate the city’s jazz scene.
The performances will be hosted by Space Wonji—a renovated bonded warehouse turned cultural complex—and Art Planning Maeummiin, an organization known for planning a variety of performances in genres such as jazz and classical music. Many accomplished jazz musicians active in Busan will participate.

Busan-based jazz musicians will present improvisational renditions of popular jazz pieces, creating an emotional stage that harmonizes with the nightscape of Busan Port.
Audiences will be able to enjoy food and the romantic atmosphere of late autumn while listening freely to the soulful melodies of jazz against the backdrop of the port’s night sea.

The concert, open free of charge to Busan citizens and tourists alike, requires advance reservations via Naver (Space Wonji).

Jo Yu-jang, Director of the Culture Bureau, stated, “This event was organized through the collaboration of local multi-purpose cultural venues and jazz artists to develop jazz performances into a unique cultural content of Busan. In particular, it provides meaningful opportunities for citizens to enjoy diverse cultural experiences through accessible jazz performances.” He added, “Busan will continue to expand performance programs that combine the city’s cultural identity with its urban brand.”
