Busan Metropolitan City Holds Launch Ceremony for Busan–Gyeongnam Administrative Integration Supporters Citizens Take the Lead in Participation and Promotion

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that the Launch Ceremony for Busan–Gyeongnam Administrative Integration Supporters will be held today (27th) at 5 p.m. in the Small Conference Room on the 12th floor of City Hall.

The Busan–Gyeongnam Administrative Integration Supporters were organized to strengthen citizen participation and build a foundation of public support—both essential for advancing regional-led, bottom-up administrative integration.

A total of 66 members were selected through an open recruitment process held over the past month, and they will officially begin their activities with today’s appointment ceremony.

The supporters include participants from diverse backgrounds—ranging from those in their 20s to their 70s, including university students and office workers—who will study and actively promote Busan–Gyeongnam administrative integration together.

The City plans to deliver accurate information and present future visions regarding administrative integration through various initiatives such as community briefings, participation in event booths, and targeted promotional activities focusing on areas like the economy and tourism.

In addition, each supporter will create and post their own content on social media (SNS), helping to further spread awareness and understanding of the administrative integration initiative.

The launch ceremony will proceed in the following order: presentation of appointment letters, commemorative photo session, explanation of integration progress and a special lecture, followed by an introduction to planned activities and a Q&A session.

In particular, Jeon Ho-hwan, Co-chairperson of the Busan–Gyeongnam Administrative Integration Public Discussion Committee, will personally explain the progress achieved so far and deliver a special lecture outlining the blueprint for integration, helping the supporters gain an overall understanding of the initiative.

Seong Heui-yeob, Vice Mayor for Future Innovation, stated, “The administrative integration of Busan and Gyeongnam goes beyond the simple merging of local governments. It is the most appropriate solution to overcome the capital-centric structure and achieve national balanced development. The activities of the supporters are expected to serve as a starting point for conveying concrete visions and strategies to citizens—such as reducing regional disparities and establishing a new national growth engine system.”
