Busan Nakdong River Project Management Office to Hold the “16th Winter Migratory Bird Festival”

The Busan Nakdong River Project Management Office announced that it will hold the “16th Winter Migratory Bird Festival” for three days from November 7 to 9 at Eulsukdo Ecological Park.

The festival has been held annually to provide information about migratory birds that visit the lower Nakdong River basin—designated as a Natural Monument—and to raise public awareness of the importance of preserving the Nakdong Estuary ecosystem.

The festival will feature various programs and experiential activities that visitors can directly enjoy, such as special lectures, “Migratory Birds in the Constellations,” “Meeting Migratory Birds by Moonlight,” and “Make Your Wings (GO) & Take Photos (GO)” with nature guides. Other attractions include the “Wing Runway” photo zone, a wildlife treatment experience, and interactive booths on site.

This year’s festival will also include in-depth birdwatching opportunities, such as the “Nakdong Estuary Birdwatching Tour with an Ornithologist” and a special YouTube lecture by “Bird Enthusiast” on “How to Birdwatch.”

In addition, a variety of ecological experience programs will be available, including “Migratory Birds in the Constellations,” “Meeting Migratory Birds by Moonlight,” “Wildlife Treatment Experience,” and “A New Encounter: The Story of Migratory Birds,” which will allow visitors to experience the beauty of nature and life in the Nakdong Estuary at night.

Visitors can also enjoy the “Wing Runway” photo zone, surprise events, and various participatory booths designed to help citizens appreciate and connect with the ecological value of the Nakdong Estuary—a vital habitat for urban biodiversity—while creating meaningful memories.

Participation is available through online pre-registration or on-site application. Pre-registration begins on October 27 on the Nakdong Estuary Eco Center website (busan.go.kr/wetland) on a first-come, first-served basis. To promote eco-friendly practices in daily life, the festival will provide free beverages and snacks to participants who bring reusable containers or tumblers.

Kim Gyeong-hee, Director of the Busan Nakdong River Project Management Office, stated, “We hope this event will inspire citizens to cherish the beauty of nature and the spirit of coexistence at the Nakdong Estuary,” adding, “Our office will continue to strengthen habitat management, including food supply measures, to ensure safe resting grounds for migratory birds that travel long distances to their winter habitats.”
