Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that volunteers are devoting their full effort to supporting the operation of the 106th National Sports Festival, which has been held across the city since October 17.

Volunteers began assisting with the operational support of the festivals from the preliminary events of the National Sports Festival and National Para Games held on September 23 and will continue their service until the closing of the National Para Games on November 5.

A total of 4,247 volunteers are participating in the events, working at 110 venues throughout Busan in various fields, including competition management, opening and closing ceremonies, and main situation room operations.

Their key duties include:

• ●Competition Management Support: stadium guidance, crowd and parking flow control, medical and quarantine assistance, anti-doping support, and general competition operation;

• ●Opening and Closing Ceremony Support: protocol assistance, guest and athlete guidance, distribution of souvenirs, coordination of stage and performance areas, order maintenance inside Busan Asiad Main Stadium, and support for athlete entry and exit;

• ●Welcome Events Support: assistance with welcome banquets and events for athletes, including overseas Korean participants;

• ●Main Situation Room Operations: maintaining and managing the overall situation of the games and operating information desks;

• ●Public Relations Support: assisting media coverage and operating promotional booths.

Grounded in their strong volunteer spirit and sense of responsibility, volunteers are providing kind and helpful guidance to spectators, contributing to the smooth and successful hosting of the games.

At one venue, when an elderly spectator with dementia appeared lost, a volunteer promptly and safely guided them to the main information center for protection, allowing them to continue enjoying the games safely. In another case, when a spectator sprained an ankle after a fall, volunteers immediately alerted the on-site medical team and ensured swift first aid response. In addition, volunteers are making every effort to keep spectators safe and comfortable by carrying out disinfection and cleanliness measures inside and outside stadiums.

Meanwhile, Busan Metropolitan City has made thorough preparations to ensure volunteers can warmly welcome athletes and citizens and help deliver a safe and lively event throughout the National Sports Festival and National Para Games periods.

From July to August, the city produced essential volunteer items such as activity manuals, ID cards, and uniforms, and from August to September, it conducted training sessions for volunteers and workshops for event operation staff. On September 17, the city also held a volunteer inauguration ceremony.
