Preparing for a Wise Retirement in the Era of 100-Year Lifespans Busan Metropolitan City to Hold the “2025 Financial Lecture on Retirement Preparation for Busan Citizens”

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold the “2025 Financial Lecture on Retirement Preparation for Busan Citizens” at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow (October 21) in the City Hall auditorium.

This lecture aims to help citizens preparing for retirement to assess their financial conditions independently and practice effective financial planning for a stable retirement. The event is organized by the Busan Senior and Middle-aged Employment Support Center, which has been designated as a Metropolitan Retirement Preparation Support Center.

The program consists of two sessions delivered by distinguished lecturers.
First, Lee Kyung-ju, a certified lecturer from the National Pension Service, will give a lecture titled “Lifetime Salary Project.” She will provide an easy-to-understand explanation of the public pension system, pension benefit strategies, and rational financial habits related to consumption and saving for a secure retirement income system.

Next, Kim Kyung-pil, an economic commentator and columnist (CEO of Money Training Lab and creator of the YouTube channel Donjjulnam), will present a lecture titled “Preparing Wisely for Retirement in the 100-Year Life Era.” His lecture will offer practical insights on asset management principles and financial strategies that middle-aged and older citizens should know in the changing financial environment.

Any Busan citizen aged 40 or older interested in retirement planning may attend the lecture. Participants can also apply on-site for a professional retirement readiness assessment and counseling service.

Through this special lecture, the city aims to encourage citizens to set their own financial goals and to expand educational programs that help them understand the multi-layered retirement income security system encompassing pensions, savings, and investments.

Meanwhile, Busan Metropolitan City operates two Metropolitan Retirement Preparation Support Centers, offering citizens comprehensive guidance on financial management, health, leisure, and interpersonal relationships. Starting next year, the city plans to greatly expand employment and internship programs for the middle-aged population approaching retirement.

The city has designated and operates both the Busan Senior and Middle-aged Employment Support Center and the Busan Regional Headquarters of the National Pension Service as Metropolitan Retirement Preparation Support Centers. Together, they provide counseling, assessments, and education services to more than 10,000 citizens annually to help them prepare for retirement.

In 2026, the city plans to create 600 jobs through the “Social Contribution Middle-aged Employment Project” and offer 300 internship opportunities in collaboration with local businesses.

Additionally, the “50 Plus Integrated Support Center” is scheduled to be completed in May 2026. This multi-purpose facility will provide customized counseling and reemployment support for middle-aged citizens, helping them prepare for retirement and embark on an active and fulfilling second stage of life.

Jung Tae-ki, Director General of the Social Welfare Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, stated, “As we enter the 100-year life era, preparing for retirement has become an increasingly important and urgent task. Busan Metropolitan City will continue to support its citizens through improved policies such as expanding middle-aged employment opportunities and opening the 50 Plus Integrated Support Center.”
